Weekend stuff
It's been a good weekend. Probably the best I've felt in three weeks, not counting Thanksgiving dinner at our place. Jury duty has been going as well as can be expected. It's been really interesting - the judge has gone to some efforts to make the process relatively transparent, and some of the other jurors have been really friendly and have shared about their previous experiences. I'm also in a really good place with work - I'd worked hard on having a bunch of meetings and paperwork due by the end of the year done early (partly due to a federal deadline for some of it, and partly due to not wanting to stay late between Thanksgiving and Winter Break), so I have very few fires to put out while I'm gone or when I get back. I'll have to make up some service time, but not a ton, and most of it is pretty easy to do. In the meantime, my supervisor knew this was coming and we were able to find a sub for almost all my kids. We got out of court early on Friday, so I went in to work for a couple of hours to return email and phone calls, so that'll help too.
At home we finished up the last of the Thanksgiving leftovers with a pot of turkey & wild rice soup that was a hit throughout the household. We discovered that apple butter makes for a good sandwich spread (thanks, Merwench!) All that's left is the planned-overs - tons of turkey stock and cranberry sauce socked away in the deep freeze.
We've been getting better about walking in the evenings, which is good for me because as the weather gets colder and crappier in the mornings, I'm less likely to do my 1.5-2.5 miles on my way to work. And I'm not really doing a lot of walking while on jury duty. Though I'm working out how much time I've really got for walking on lunch, now that I'm getting a feel for how long the security line is.
I've nearly got christmas presents finished. Now that we're pretty sure the basement won't flood anymore this winter, I might even get a couple more projects done downstairs over the winter break. A few Kickstarter rewards showed up recently too. I'll have to write about those separately.
