Date Night Extraordinaire

Sep 22, 2012 15:30

It's been a busy day at La Casa de Los Tres Gatos Locos already. M and I started out with a Date Night tonight, and it's grown into a big adventure-full kind of day.

We started out with the Rock & Roll Camp for Girls Gear Sale. They're moving into a smaller but more permanent space, and had to clear out a lot of items before the big move. They had guitars, basses, keyboards, organs, drums, amps, music books for sale, even a couple of saxophones and a banjo! I'm glad we got there when we did. Otherwise I might not have been able to bring home this:

It's a Squier Strat Affinity series Hello Kitty (tm) 3/4 guitar. I will probably need to restring it, and it either needs a new strap or some straplocks, but otherwise appears to be in great shape. M tried it out on the little amp before we bought it, and said it sounds pretty good too.

(for more on what this guitar can sound like, check out this clip or one of Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda)

After the gear sale, we went off to get primped and fussed. Mani-pedis! Michael mostly got polished and buffed (no, not a euphemism).

Then lunch at Panera. We'd meant to do the sushi-go-round, but the line was just too long.

Some down time at home - got the Hello Kitty guitar tuned & tried out, tried to find a matching bag (none available currently for under $85, but I did find some HK guitar pick jewelry!), played with kitties,

Then off to the opera! Portland Opera's Big Night - a variety of songs from several operas, with the Portland Opera musicians on the main stage performing with several of the principal singers. There was even a piece about ice cream! Also, a street fair right outside where there was much music and dancing beforehand, a live simulcast was shown of the concert happening inside the theater, and after the concert, they showed The Marx Brothers' A Night at the Opera on the outdoor screen. And all the proceeds of the Big Night event goes towards their program to bring music education & opera to as many schools in Oregon as possible. I'd really hoped to have a picture of me and M all dressed to include in this post, but apparently it was just not meant to be. Out of five pictures taken, not one was fit to share. Well, at least I don't *think* I'm that out-of-focus in real life!
