Cooking in the new year

After yesterday's less-than-stellar batches of bread, I also finished out with homemade mayonnaise and cream of chicken & rice soup. The soup came out really well, and there should be enough for two more days if I dish it out carefully. The mayonnaise is a little questionable for me. I'll try it again, definitely with a less strongly-flavored olive oil next time. What I had in the house, we'd bought more for dipping bread into and for finishing foods. It made for a very olive-oily, green mayo. But then I'm not a big mayo fan to begin with (I'm a Miracle Whip girl), so I'll leave it to the fiance to decide how it came out. I also did about 2 miles in the living room, and got a bunch more done on one of the toddler skirts.

Today's been another big cooking day. It occurred to me how much I'm going to need food ready to go, with two nights of classes this quarter (retaking Intro to Sewing + its homework, and we found a ballroom class that fits in the fiance's schedule), his new volunteer job, and impending garden tasks. I'm gonna have to step up the weekend cooking in order to avoid falling back on either constantly eating crap or going out all the time.

It's been a nice enough day I opened the windows - partly to let out the onion fumes (!) and partly just to get some fresh air through the house. The kitties are quite appreciative. They've taken turns by the windows smelling & hearing the world go by. I got another couple of continuing ed hours done today. Now it's time to take a break and watch the kitties floss their toes.
