October Happiness

Not even 10 am on the weekend, and already it's a good day.

In the last two weeks, at least two people joined BookCrossing because of books I left around town. One of them just sent me a nice note thanking me both for the book and for helping him discover BookCrossing. That is teh awesum.

Today is also full of cleaning house (the process itself is not so exciting, but having a clean house helps me feel more ordered and centered) and cooking lots of good food to trade for massage. Also the gardening, getting things ready for winter. I can't wait till I get the borrowed camera back to its owner so I can get the pictures back and posted.

I discovered a flower in the driveway strip.

It's a Striped squill (or Lebanese squill).
I'm pretty sure I didn't plant it out there. I'd like to think I'd remember buying something with a name like that. And I don't remember it from last year (though last fall was kind of a blur, so it wouldn't have been hard to miss it). It's a hyacinth relation, so maybe a squill bulb got into the packet of hyacinths I'd bought. The thing is, it's supposed to bloom in early spring, not early fall. However it ended up there, I hope it multiplies. It's a lovely white with delicate blue stripes. Hopefully it'll pop up again in spring with the rest of the bulbs.
