In today's world, artists' creativity equates to sexually explicit lyrics and performances. Of course, this was insinuated by JC of the now-dismembered boy band N*SYNC, who was being featured in an interview on CNN.
What the fucked up part is, if you haven't realized it, is that he "put" sex and an artist's creativity together. Britney Spears must be fucking creative because she shakes her ass and sluts herself in her music videos. To be creative, you must have sexy (borderline whore-ish, which goes for both sexes) image, you must lower your standards, and you must degrade yourself. Dignity... what, what's that? Of course it's not the artists' talents and REAL creativity that matters, but how much attention they can draw to themselves by doing stupid stunts to sell singles (which are a complete waste) and albums (many of which are crap).
There has been an entertainment shakedown after the Superbowl, according to JC, and the people in charge of the Pro bowl halftime show replaced his music performance with Hawaiian hula-hoop dancers and local artists. They offered him the opportunity to sing the National Anthem, but he pulled out of it entirely. Pulling out of it was his loss. What... is the National Anthem less of a thing to sing to than some fucking "I wanna love you, baby" song? Regardless, do I think that the decision was unfair to him? Sure, why not. Do I care? Not at all.
An artist's creativity should not equate to blunt, sexually explicit lyrics or performances. There's a difference between being artful about sex and being indecent. An artist or band can also be "outrageous" and provoking without those lyrics and performances. In fact, they have been for decades already.
Be creative in your lyrics without sexed up vulgar shit, keep an authentic image of integrity, and don't pull stupid stunts to gain popularity (rather than to communicate a message), and I guarantee that artist he or she will have my $15-$20 on their overpriced, RIAA sponsored CD.
Of course, that's when I can afford to shell out the money.
