Just a quick aside to people living in NYC. Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of Union Square being designated a National Historic Landmark for its a role as a center of free speech and assembly! Celebrations at 6-7pm (THUR)!

That out of the way, I need to kill some time before heading to the library.

I've been saying to a couple of people that I really hope we have a good winter this year. By good winter of course I mean that we have significant snowfall (like I remember from my childhood). I honestly do not mind the cold...but I don't want it if it doesn't come with snowfall. Having great amounts of snow on the ground is such a defining characteristic of winter and yet it seems to be much less common place in NYC over the past couple of years. Without the snowfall, the weather is just muddy, mucky, cold, and gross. At least with snow you have a transformation of your landscape beyond it just being a colder version of the last bit of fall.
