Today was my last day at The Home Depot. It was very strange. It was kind of like the last day of school, except that no one else was leaving. I had the 12:00-9:00 shift, which is my favorite shift because I get to sleep in, and it isn't horribly late when I get home. The store has a different feel to it after 8:00pm or so. It starts slowing down a lot, the atmosphere is more relaxed, and there aren't a lot of contractors coming in for gigantic, complicated orders. I really like the later shifts, and I will always really hate the early shifts. It isn't just waking up early, which I really have trouble with, but it has been my experience that the customers tend to be more cranky and irritable in the morning. The late-night shoppers are more like me.

When we leave, we're supposed to cut up our apron and throw it away, but I snuck mine out in my purse when my shift ended. It has a lot of memories and hard-earned filth, and I'm not going to give it up.

I'm strongly considering going back next summer. Although it was embarrassing at times, and endlessly frustrating and confusing, I had a good time for the most part, and the pay wasn't too bad. It wasn't really great, but considering my complete lack of experience it was okay. I really got attached to some of the people there, and there's always a chance they will still be there next summer. I kind of wish there was a Home Depot in Ellensburg, but that would be a sign that The Home Depot has indeed taken over the world, and that's probably not a good thing.

I'm leaving to go camping on Sunday, and I haven't the faintest clue when I'll be back. At this point, we don't even know where we're going, or even that we're going day after tomorrow specifically. With any luck we'll figure it out by the time we get to the highway and are forced to make a decision: North or South?
