Well, this might be useless if I'm just going to forget everything when I finally get to go home, but I don't feel like just wasting all this time. And I need something else to think about...Anyone seeing this: I'm Rita Mordio, a mage and scholar. Why not, I'll bite.

There are four nations in my world: Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe, Air Nomads, and Fire Nation. The Air Nomads aren't really around anymore, though. We've been at war with the Fire Nation for a hundred years, and they've done a lot of damage.

Each nation has an ability called bending that lets them manipulate their nation's element. In my case, I'm from the Earth Kingdom, so I'm an earthbender. That's how I get around even though I'm blind: I feel the vibrations in the earth and that lets me perceive where everything around me is. Most earthbenders can't do that, though. Everyone can only bend one element except for the Avatar, who's this person who has to keep balance in the world and between the four nations. The Avatar is reincarnated in a cycle through the four nations, and they're the only person in the world who can bend all four elements.

They weren't too creative naming your countries, were they? But this bending sounds interesting. So is that a natural talent that everyone in the country possesses?

And you guys have seriously been at war a hundred years? I can only imagine the kind of damage that would be left from a war that long. If this Avatar is supposed to keep balance between the nations, it doesn't sound like they're doing a very good job.

I don't think creativity was their main concern way back when. No, not everyone can bend. It's pretty random. Neither of my parents are benders, but I am. My friend Katara's the only waterbender in her whole tribe.

Actually, the Avatar went missing a hundred years ago and he just turned back up. We're working on stopping the Fire Nation, but first he's got to master all four elements before he even has a chance against the Fire Lord.

Hm, I wonder if it's got something to do with the environment. It could even be a dormant genetic trait...kind of like diseases that skip generations, things like that.

Oh. Well, I guess that explains it--but where was he hiding for a whole century? Shouldn't he have used that time to learn?

Beats me. I never really cared enough to think about it. But it is true that the Water Tribe lives at the poles and the Fire Nation is really, stupidly, disgustingly, ridiculously hot.

He was stuck in an iceberg. Now lay off him. He's working his butt off to master all the elements and beat the Fire Nation in just a couple of months.

All right, already! It's not like I knew what happened! So, what, he was completely frozen like that for so long? How did he even survive?

He's the Avatar. Weird stuff happens around him all the time. Trust me, I would know.

Must be a blast. It sounds like you're pretty close to this Avatar.

I'm his earthbending teacher. It's my delightful privilege to pummel him with rocks on a daily basis.

Well you did say he had to learn fast.

And he's lucky enough to have the best earthbender in the world to teach him.

Yeah, lucky him.

Don't worry, I won't hold it against you for not being properly appreciative. You've never even heard of earthbending, so it's not like you're much of a judge.

Yeah, right. I couldn't care less about your weird bending but it's a wonder you've even got a student with such a winning personality like yours. Beggars can't be choosers though, can they?

I have better things to do with my time then waste it listing everything wrong with you! My personality is just perfect as far as I'm concerned.
