Announcing Michigan Consuite - a new mailing list for fandom in Michigan!
I have decided to start a new Michigan mailing list for folks in fandom (sci-fi, comics, tv, movies, internet, technology, goth, nerd, dementia, geek, and just playing weird things). The list is called Michigan Consuite. The point of the list is not a specific topic, but rather who is on the mailing list. I want (and I know several other have stated similar sentiments) a mailing list that discusses any thing and everything that would be discussed in consuite. No subject is off limits, no posts are ridiculed for being “off topic.” The point is who we are talking to not what is being talked about. Any one from any Michigan group is welcome and welcome to post about their groups and events. Michigan Open Fandom Org, Stilyagi, Penguicon, the ConClave group, the tios group, and any one else that relates to Michigan and fandom!
Now, before you read and more, I want to you be aware of rule #1 of Michigan Consuite…
Rule #1: Censorship on the list is YOUR DELETE KEY!
This is basically the entire reason and foundation for the list. If you are one of those ppl who can’t take 3 seconds to delete a msg you aren’t interested in or can’t bother setting up mail filters, then frankly we don’t want you on the list. The list is for any one to discuss anything. At some point some one WILL post something you don’t want to see. We only want ppl on the list willing to hit the delete key rather then flaming the list about how they don’t want to see it. There are more rules but more on that in a bit.
I know that yet ANOTHER mailing list seems like more fractioning of fandom in Michigan, but I think it’s both a symptom of the fandom in Michigan growing as well as a place for all other groups to merge. The 3 other major lists have all put in place certain censorships to protect their group and limit their focus. That limits what can be discussed and by whom. Michigan Consuite can be a place where ALL groups can meet and discuss issues that effects all of fandom and those who only wish to see the limited content of their list do not have to be annoyed with “off topic” posts.
I was going to wait for my server to be back up and running 100% before starting this list, but I discovered google groups and realized how good and cool they are, so I decided to lunch the group on google. The list is at….
