Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer on Thursday stoutly defended Shoaib Akhtar, saying those who were raising doubts over his bowling action should know that the pace spearhead had been cleared by the game's governing body.
Woolmer was apparently reacting to comments attributed to his Indian counterpart Greg Chappell but did not name him.
"The International Cricket Council has a report circulating which says he is not to be questioned again," Woolmer was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
Chappell is believed to have told an Indian TV channel that there was "something seriously different" about Shoaib's action.
The Pakistan Cricket Board have already asked match referee Ranjan Madugalle to look into Chappell's remarks.
Woolmer, who saw his team canter to a 341-run series-winning victory over India in Karachi yesterday, said such insinuating comments were hard on the player.
"To bring it up during a Test match and blast it all over the papers is disappointing and hard on the player," he said.
"It's tough on him but I thought he responded magnificently," said the former England player.
The fastest bowler in world cricket, Shoaib was called thrice for chucking before being cleared subsequently by the ICC.
An accusation that 'Shoaib Akhtar chucks' from a man (Gregory Stephen Chappell, younger brother of Ian Chappell, who is probably the most unmannered of all the cricket-players ever born) who ---
1) disrespected his own profession (cricket) to the point that he had his younger brother Trevor Chappell bowl an underarm delivery as the last ball of the match in order to win an ODI.
2) is so disgustingly treacherous by nature that he advised and assisted the Indian men's cricket team captain(Sourav Ganguly) against his own country's team(led by Steve Waugh) during a tour of Indian-Men's to Australia.
How does a man of such dubious character even dare to accuse Shoaib Akhtar, or for that matter, anyone, of chucking ?
