Okay, here it finally comes to an end! I will, in the future, try to post more regularly when stuff is happening so I don't eat your f-page. But until that happens, enjoy my picture book posts!
Where was I last...OH! Okay, so the day after Megan left (Tuesday of last week) I sat around. It felt so good after having just sewed for a week straight, followed by SGMS and all that other stuff. Gah! That took so much out of me. Oh, who am I kidding, I took two days off. I mostly just slept in and drifted in an out of conciousness on the couch while watching bad TV. I really needed to do it, but it turned out to be really hard to get back into the swing of things. After my totally sweet days off, I worked hard to finish a bridesmaid order. Well, this wasn't like any other bridesmaid order. This is for Chrissy's wedding, a lovely and polite girl who works (worked?) for Tokyopop who I met on my trips to New York. Both she and her twin sister are seriously the cutest things in the whole world. I want to collect them and their cuteness. Well, Chrissy had what had to be one of the most frustrating orders ever. She is getting married in the fall so she wanted fall colors, yet she loves purple so she wanted purple and she went me a picture of a real bridesmaid dress that she'd MS Painted the way she wanted it, yet she wanted it to be lolita. Ahhhh! It was all confusing and I didn't know what to do, but she wanted three of them. *sigh* So the last few weeks has actually been just us trying to agree on fabrics since she lives out of state and so do the girls and in order to get the lolita shape you need cotton or a nice solid fabric. Yet everything solid purple in colors that weren't BARNEY were prom satins. So I tried to change he mind about the colors and she really wanted purple so I asked if a print would be okay. She said yes. Now Chrissy is actually a really easy going girl. Not a tyrant and one of the best brides I've worked with. She just really knew what she liked. So she sends me a bunch of fabric samples, one of which I knew was at Joann. It just happened to be star printed...which she loved. The girl loves celestial bodies and such, so with the charms I was going to put on the bust (it's a modified Leela), it turned out to be a pagan-y, lolita-y kinda thing. I don't know. Anyway, one of the measurements she'd given me were off so I ran a little late getting to the post office and then I ran out of gold thread at midnight! It was so frustrating! So I overnighted them on Monday and I haven't heard anything awful so they must all be okay.
The sketch I showed her
She chose the first one.
Yes I colored it with crayon,
I didn't have new photoshop yet.

So yeah, that was that. Then Friday was Dani's wedding. We went with Kozy and her friend whose name I forget right now. Dani looked so pretty! Michelle boobs were FANTASTIC! Ryan and I have decided it's our personal duty to fix her up with a nice nerd who is cute. And nice! So it was a cute wedding :) They had candy on the gift table, trick-or-treat style. Dani was super duper hot in her freshy dyed hair. Mike was wearing a baseball cap for some reason *shrug*. They had jack-o-lanterns on the table and we realized the templates were from VG Cats (you guys are nerds), including but not limited to a Tri-force pumpkin. Yay!
Well, Dani and Mike had their first dance and their best man and MoH were doing their speeches. I got all sentimental. I put my arms around Ryan and was absentmindedly moving my fingers against his abdomen or something and he pushed me away. Yeah, at someone else's wedding, after what we'd been through this year, he just did that. So, we'd argued before the wedding, too and I was really mad at him because it felt like he'd taken something I'd done for him for granted. He was all butt-hurt that we went to BK without him or something. Well anyway, I asked what his deal was, he said what I was doing "felt weird". He gave me this really mean look. I said flat out, "I remember working with Dani and how she felt she and Mike wouldn't get married. He grew up, they got married. You and I have been together 5 years and have had our wedding postponed because we're poor. How the fuck do you think i feel right now? I need you and you push me away because my fingers feel weird. That's not what I need right now." I got up and walked out before I caused a scene. I went outside and called my mother and cried. After I got off the phone with her, I waited for my eyes to not be red anymore. Kozy came outside. I was happy that she came to talk to me, but mad because Ryan didn't. I went outside because it was Dani's night and I didn't want to say or do anything I'd regret, not because I wanted to be followed. But Ryan NEVER follows me or comes to me or tries to fix things. I always have to go to him or apologize to him or if I'm right and he knows it, he'll still turn it back on me. I told Kozy that I felt he was acting unfairly. He hurt me when I was feeling vulnerable. She said he felt like he wasn't doing his duty and that he knew how upset I was that we weren't married. Well, later when i did finally talk to him, I asked why Kozy came out and he didn't. He said it was because he was mad at me. He said I take him for granted and that he was going to the wedding for me and got off work early for me and that it wasn't fair that we had to rush and do all this stuff. I asked why he immediately thought it was my fault that all those things happened. He couldn't possibly think Kozy came early because she wanted to beat traffic. He didn't think that we got food because her friend was hungry. That we couldn't pick him up from work because she doesn't have much in the way of funds to be thrown away going to pick him up, bringing him home and then leaving again. I told him I don't think it's fair that a lot of times he will blame me readily for things I have no control over without asking me what caused these things. I love Kozy and this has nothing to do with her or what she did or does, but it makes me mad that he is more readily willing to believe her, side with her, or discount things she's done involving the day than me. I'm his fiancee and she's our friend. This is not the first time this has happened and he needs to stop.
Anyway, we got in a huge fight at home and he told me he feels like I take him for granted, that he's a great guy and that he doesn't get why I get mad at him for certain things. He said, "I'm sorry I didn't want to take that thing you gave me right away while I was putting my socks on!" Earlier in the day when he came home from work I Koz greeted him at the door coz I was putting on eyeliner. I put it down and gave him a hug and said, "I made you a present!" He said, "Is it a new leg?" and walked away. Okay, he hurt himself. That's fine. Later after he settled in a changed his clothes (which i ironed for him since he asked), I went into our room and held out my hand. He was putting on socks and said, "Just show me what it is. I don't have time for games." I through it on the bed and stormed out. I knew he'd had a bad day so I made him a monogram pin like the ones I've made for all the girls. He was a little sad that I hadn't made him one last week so I thought this small gesture would cheer him up. Instead he was a dick and didn't see it that way. He say it as me trying to get attention. I gave up and sat in the other room until he was ready to go. He grudgingly said "Thanks for ironing my clothes" and we left. Still nothing about the pin. So when we were fighting, I told him I feel like he takes my gestures for granted. The fact that I knew he had a bad day at work. The fact that earlier in the week when he'd twisted his ankle, I wrapped it for him and changed his ice pack three times and he didn't say thank you any of the times until I said, "You're welcome?" Yeah, I told him that I made him that pin so he'd feel included and maybe be happier. I think he got it then, because we've been getting along famously since.
Saturday was my family birthday party. We ate at the St. Clair Broiler, one of my favorite secret places to go. Since we don't have a car anymore, we can't go there as often as we used to, because it's in St. Paul. It was Ryan, my sister, her family, my dad, my mom, her boyfriend and me. It was great! The kids were adorable. My niece got braces and is looking older every day. She'll be 13 in the spring. I love how beautifully her sarcasm is coming. My nephew is falling in love with books (finally) and asked if I could bring him some books the next time I come over. I teared up :) My little man is reading so much. Last year he asked me if I could maybe please not get him a book and maybe get him a DS game instead. I worried he wouldn't be a reader. He even bragged about reading a whole 104 page chapter book all by himself. He also said he'd loan me a book called Monsters and Villains because he thought I'd like it. *squee* So cute! Anyway, I got another Hello Kitty Notebook (I love that Hello Kitty has apple print this year, it caused me to get a lot of HK stuff for my b-day), a set of old Strawberry Shortcake glasses, a new iron (yay!), Lyra's Oxford, and my phone bill paid. Woot! Oh and my very mature, very adult, very 28 years old annual Hello Kitty birthday cake. I love it. I think my family loves that I'm such a kid :) It was a great birfday :)
Sunday was the Voltaire concert! I'd written him an email a little over a week prior, but I figured he was busy. I didn't hear anything back from him so we just decided we'd go out after the show just all of us. As a thank you for all his rocking at life, I paid for Drayke's ticket. Jane and Drayke met Ryan and me at the house, then we drove to Heather's. We got to meet her super cute new puppy! She's adorable! And fianlly! An animal I can play with :)
We piled into the car and drove to Station 4 so Drayke could make sure he could bring in his camera. We were going to ask Dustin's friend in the Bloody Turncoats if we could film in there since usually if one band okays it, the others don't mind. Well we get to the club and after Heather had Adam bring her her ID (oops!), we went to the bar. Ryan says, "Hey, there's Voltaire," and I said, "I know, lemme get a drink." I hear, "Samantha!!!" I turn and walk over and Voltaire says, "I'm so sorry I didn't respond until just now! I wrote you an email a few hours ago, see?" and he shows me the outbox of myspace on the laptop he was borrowing. It was pretty funny. We chatted a little about the venue and about the lead up to the show wasn't exactly what he'd expected, the fact that he needed a sound check but couldn't get one. We also talked about how Tokyopop frustrates him, but how he liked dealing with
iamchubbybunny. Anyway, he said he didn't know if he had time to go out with us and that he couldn't afterwards because he was going on at 11 now and needed to sell stuff after the show. Then he said he'd ask again about soundcheck, grabbed his guitar and said he'd go with us because he just really wanted to get out of there. Apparently he didn't get open drinks like a lot of venues do for guests. He was only given Budweiser drink tickets? Yuck. Anyway, we all piled into Jane's van, threw Drayke in the trunk (he was the least fancy), and went to the Kitty Cat Klub. There we drank yummy drinks, Ryan blathered on about his love on Minnesota, Voltaire prattled on about his hatred of Sarah Palin, and we talked very briefly about clothing, how lame St. Paul is, Lolitas, Kakkoi|con, Ground Zero, First Ave. and why he didn't play in Mpls. Apparently the guy who booked him was a fan who was like "Let me do it!" I was like, "Dude, seriously, let me know next time. There was no promotion for this show. I didn't even know about it until a few weeks ago when a friend told me. And I'm on your myspace. If you let me know, I can get a troupe of Lolitas to do some hardcore promoting. Oh, and Minneapolis, next time. Srsly. St. Paul is where middle aged hipsters go to die." He was all, "Yeah, that would be great! I do definately want to come back."
So, it got close to when we needed to be heading back so we all piled back in the van and went back, all the while he was intrigued that Jane used to be a Jehovah's Witness and was asking about Prince and stuff. Very funny dialogue. And according to him, apparently our capital building is the White House and our Cathedral is the Kremlin now.
We get back and park on the other side of the block and walk through a seedy alley. This takes us to the back door of a gay bar (harhar) and outside in the alley is a couch. Ewww, we joked about this as we came out the other side and this girl says, "Oh my gawd! Are you...are you...Voltaire?" He says, "I don't know...I might be." "Oh my gawd, can I have a hug!?" "Sure." After that, while walking in, I ask if that happens a lot. He said yes. I guess fangirls are fangirls no matter what their fangirl over. I thought that was a strictly anime crowd thing to do. I get weird huggy fangirls and boys but I that was the awkward otaku action. *edit* I don't mean awkward in a bad way. It's true, people tend to be awkward and shy. It happens all the time. ALLLL the time at anime cons. I'm loud and boisterous, so I'm not used to thinking from the point of view of someone awkward and shy. Sorry if I offend. *edit done* Oh well. Anyway, so the crew all went to get more drinks at the bar, I wished Voltaire a good show, we shared mixed up handshake/fistpound/high five/hug and he went off through the throngs of awkward goths and Convergence/Renfest nerds. We met back up with Dustin and just drank until the show.
The show itself was AMAZING! I haven't been to a concert (not counting Kakkoi|con coz that was work), since...Deftones/Dir En Grey? Yeah, I think that's right. Anyway, it was great. He's a funny guy who just so happens to have a beautiful voice. True story, I didn't know he sang until I worked for Hot Topic. I actually only knew him as a comic artist since I've been buying his books since high school. Funny, right? So I then didn't turn into a full-blown fan fan until I met him NYAF and he was so nice to me. The number one way to get me as a fan is to treat me like a person/peer/non-fangirl. Most of my favorite people are people who treat me like that. Well, anyway, it was an amazing show and despite the wonky lighting, Drayke got some great pictures!
I put a tiny video on my Myspace channel, too.
Anyway, after the show he went to sell stuff. All the shy fans held back so I went and bought my CD first so I could go get a new drink. I got one for me and one for him, then went back to my group. After everyone cleared out, I said, "Can we get a few pictures before we leave? It's past our bedtime and we're all tired and old." He said sure, but that he had to pack some stuff up first. During this time someone from CONvergence totally distracted him. Ryan got impatient, but I'm not about to interfere in someone's business, so I waited patiently.
After that, I also talked a bit more about promoting for him next year. I told him to call or email me in advance so I know when he'll be in town and I can guarentee more people. He said absolutely, that he wants to make it an annual thing. Seriously, Station 4 was a joke. Maybe a 1/3 of it was full. And it's a small club. That's ridiculous. Anyway, we got our pics taken, I bought some buttons and we left.
Anyway, next year hopefully he'll rock a bigger venue. Maybe not even bigger, just in Mpls. So the next show after this is Dir En Grey. I never dress Lolita to their shows because I know Kyo doesn't like Lolitas, but I may try and tweak it. I hand out more business cards when I dress up. I'm going to Diru with my brother and I'm super excited! It's be fun!
Yesterday and the day before Ryan and I watched all of Avatar Season 3. My brain exploded with how amazing it was. You're right Erik, Sozin's Comet was amazing! *splode* Then Heather and I went on a late night fabric run and ran into Megan C. She's so rad, I love that girl. I got green fabric for my new coat and enough fabric to make three Leela JSKs. I'm going to look for the other bolt when I go in on Friday with Megan C. I also got stuff for 3 of the 5 orders I have to fill. Today I need to get a hold of Ynyr to see if she can come save me. I have fittings on Sunday I think.
And now you're caught up! Yay!
