its fucking late out here.
but i came across this movie.
1 giant leap.
"What is truly missing is the belief that business should be more about public good than private greed
whatever law this coutry gives that protects my health or environment. if it gets in the way of trade it will be suppressed who is going to control this most powerful institution.
business is more powerful than politics. more powerful than religion so its not going to be government. its going to be the vigilante consumer. a culture where two billion people are living off of 2 dollars a day and we don't give a fuck.
a culture where thousands and thousands of ads. from the day you are born to the day you die... mostly directed at your girlfriend or wife. because its about how they can keep women passive. mostly its not about engaging the human spirit. how we can We'll shape you. we'll alienate you from your body. its a phenomenal strategy in this world. "
"A lot of our youth they are affeced by some very potent and powerful imagery out there. the nba. michael jordan. pepsi.sony. the golden arches. you name it.man they're symbols. they are dominating our landscape culturally.so I'm in the business of showing other dominate cultural images as well. and saying hey. let's not forget about these things because they are who WE are.
most people don't want to be maori believe it or not or don't want polynesians. they want to be whatever is coming out of the square in the corner of their lounge. they want to be they want to be that like tupac... puffy combs. and they want to be these other people. because thats more attractive then being maori. there billions of dollars poured into making it so. we don't got resources like that.
we just got kooky fellows like me who just carve sculptures for the rest of their lives and laugh in the face of western society. and say hey i'm going to do it this way..."
"the most precious commodity on earth is true freedom"
The truth will set you free. well shit. it feels like this wonderful message all compiled into one flowing artistic beat will set me free. This movie is beautiful.
those two messages alone really help me to see and accept myself for who I really am.
all these struggles i have been dealing with, as a women, as a person of color in a society where there is this constant pull to be something that i cannot and will not be.
for example. the topic of the fashion world and my turbulent relationship with it. like i don't know whether i'm coming or going...
all the questions on why I am not a fashion photographer. well this is why. I can either be a part of the problem. or the reminder of who WE really are. I choose the latter.
I think it is significant that i choose to bring beauty to the moments or slices of life that are real.
and not to celebrate how THEY have been trying to make us for so long. I think i have been so turned off, so numb after working for the fund and how betrayed I felt. I turned off my emotions toward politics and I knew this before. my trust was placed into yet another machine-- power machine of politicians and corruption. I think I was suppose to learn that way that hope and the possibility of things getting better can only be found in ourselves... inside. Individually. No hybrid car. no non-profit organization. only in ourselves.
its fucking 531am out here.
shit. i don't care. i feel free.
not bounded by the same expectations as before. not bounded by the same bullshit, not even time can stop me. this year's end is making way for some wonderful things. like not taking any bullshit from anything. this time I demand nothing but freedom, happiness, justice.
I must remember first, I am a spirit. and I must remember life. live in this body through this body and I suffer. I have suffered. ***live as a spirit - then I can be free. I don't want to feel like a product...a by product anymore....
