We were parallel structures,
as we laid in bed,
backs like boards.
I thought of buildings,
of us as buildings-
tall, gray, stiff-
towering over a city, a people,
with a sort of importance,
a sort of pretension.
As we both sat up and placed feet to ground,
I felt things take root.
I thought of trees,
of us as trees,
grounded.
There's more to this, I can feel it- I just don't know what it is quite yet.
Or maybe this is all it will ever be.
