So I went in front of a grand jury to testify yesterday and I don't know if there's been many times that I've felt that awful. I barely want to talk about the whole experience, but I feel like I need to keep some record of all these significant moments in my life.
I found out the name of the guy. I found out that he used a b-b gun (it looked super fucking real). I felt halfway like passing out for at least an hour of my time there. I was there probably 2 and a half to three hours.
The grand jury room was like this: Judge in right hand front corner; half a foot lower is the witness stand; another half foot down is the floor; on the floor in front of the judge sits the court reporter; the room is wide enough for an isle and four people to sit; there are rows of four people, two to a side, that go up in tiers 6 inches taller than the next; at the top in the middle is a pulpit like thing which the attorney asks you questions from; there is nobody else in the room except for you, the judge, attorney, court reporter, and 20 jurors.
Immediately after leaving the courthouse I called my two friends that live in the area. I left messages for both, and when I had just started walking toward the train to go to work (I had almost to decided to call out), Kevin called. I needed a drink, and after running by his apartment we went to Applebee's and I got a pint of Killian's. Kevin and the beer were extremely helpful.
And now back at work, it looks like the court appearance is going to be charged against my fucking vacation time. how the fuck is this possible? I have to give them a copy of the subpoena to get it credited to my non-vacation time, whatever that would be, but I got served my subpoena over the phone! What the fuck!
