4AM: I was up playing World of Warcraft when the phone rang. Having heard about the Japanese earthquake, I expected this call. It was my parents. My dad was himself, but my mom was frantic. I'm sure she was convinced that this was the last time she would talk to me. I try in vain to reassure her that there wasn't an evacuation for the San Francisco area. And that there are several factors which made the coming tsunami less of a big deal than one would think.
I don't think she calmed down until around 6AM, when the day broke and there was still no evacuation alerts. And also the waves that his Hawai'i were not bad.
The Pacific tectonic plate seems to be pretty active of late... I wonder if it's going to hit America next...
