Operation Surprise Mom went off without a hitch. I have no clue why.

My Aunt Grace is uncharacteristically on time to pick me up from the airport. She wisks me away to a local steakhouse chain to meet mom and dad for dinner. Grace and my dad told mom that there was something important Grace wanted to tell them. They led her to believe that my cousin Megan was getting married, and that dad would be asked to lead her down the aisle.

Mom isn't happy about missing the day that they go grocery shopping and the fact that they're eating late-6:30PM. And she says that they're not paying for dinner, etc. But that all fades when she sees me. Yay! She's floored. I get put into a chokehold-quite literally, almost passing out from the hug-while she cries and hugs me.

Wendy (mrscake) is coming by for dinner too. I haven't seen her in years, and it was great to have her there. The dinner is fun. The food is not all that great, but it doesn't matter.

There's not much more to say about it. I had a relaxing weekend being doted over by my mom.

Come to find out, my nephew, Jake, moved in with his girlfriend. I got the not-so-surprising news yesterday that she's expecting. So I'm going to be a great-uncle.

And because I cannot travel without something bad happening, I got a cold . . . most likely from the plane ride.

family, travel
