Okay. I'm back from Japan. It was a fun trip. There was a lot of eating, partying, and tons of walking.
I made it as far as Shibuya Station (渋谷駅) on my own, but forgot to Google exactly where my hotel was. Luckily, I had rented a mobile phone and called Christian, who has been working on his ESP because he was minutes away on route. Got to the hotel-my room is very small and cool and new. I don't sleep, because that would be bad. Instead, we meet up with his friends for dinner. I have to bail around midnight, though. I was just too tired.
I got to meet up with Sterling, Eliza, and Gabe for dinner at a random yakitori place in Shinjuku (新宿区). The Shinjuku Station is a labyrinth, but we somehow managed to coordinate and find each other. Interesting fact: Japan's streets aren't named! A whole bunch of us go to the
Ghibli Museum in Mitaka (三鷹市). Absolutely beautiful and quite amazing! Very kid-centric.
I went to the Emperial Palace. Once I got there, I realized that I'd been there in 2000. Not much had changed. I heard later that some deranged Spanish tourist was arrested for swimming in the moat. He apparently fought off the stunned police with a bit of the plastic barricade.
I wish I had pictures of that. . . .
One night was karaoke (after dinner, natch), but I have to bail because of tiredness. I got to go see the
Tokyo Game Show, play a few games (badly), and become fairly exhausted. I sat in on the podcast that Christian, John, Mark, Shane, and Garnet all do. We get to go to a club in Roppongi (六本木) on the 52nd floor of some random building. The music was great. We stayed until 5AM. The views were amazing!
Japan is cool. Christian's friends are High Quality Individuals (HQIs), and I totally enjoyed hanging out with them.
