Another gaming post.

If you are a gamer, and are looking for an MMO that offers more than just the usual grinding of levels and crap for endgame, then let me suggest this to you..

World of Warcraft, created by Blizzard Inc., is the fourth installment of the Warcraft series of games that have sold more copies than.. well pretty much any other computer game to date. That is most likely not including the Maxis series of simulation games, since those are hardly "gamer" games, but more so the "casual gamer" games. I am not disputing the fact that they are hella addictive and uber fun, I just do not count them in league with the lead contending games.

World of Warcraft, or WoW, is a Massive Multiplayer Online Game, or MMO. When you sign up and go to create your first character, you have the choice of a server to play on, called a Realm. Now, these servers vary in gameplay style. Some are Player Versus Player, or PvP, realms, where you focus on killing players of the opposite faction first and foremost, and on endgame contect second. Other realms are noted as "Normal", which is a Player Versus Environment, or PvE, realm. On these realms you focus on the endgame content and large group raiding against Non-Player Characters, or NPCs. The third realm is called a Role-Play Player Versus Player, or RPPvP, realm. Here you Role-Play with other players and focus on PvP. Lastly you have the RPPvE realms, which focus on RP and PvE content.

The realm that I play on is called Shadow Council, and is a major Role-Play oriented server. In this post I will highlight the RP "hotspots" and some features of my main server.

=RP Hotspots=
-Stormwind-
The human capital on Azeroth, Stormwind, is located in the souther portion of the center of the Eastern Kingdoms and is the main location of all things Role-Play oriented. Walking the streets of Stormwind will 90% of the time call an RPer to notice you and strike up an "RP session."

-Stormwind: Park District-
RP heaven. Located within Stormwind is a district known as the Park District. It is here that the main RP events start, prosper or go down. This is the gathering point for all of the RPers on the Alliance side on Shadow Council. Located within the Park is an empty tavern that a guild of players have taken ownership of and named "The Golden Leaf Tavern." Pugnose, the owner of the tavern, opens his establishment at 7PM server time and closes it at 11PM server time. He has many barmaids and bartenders as well as multiple storylines that he is involved in. If you are new to RPing or are having a hard time finding RP, this is the place to be.

-Goldshire-
Located outside of the Stormwind gates is a small town called Goldshire. This place is where all of the new alliance players eventually end up, making it a breeding place for beginners RP. Despite the abundance of idiots in the area, many seasoned RPers make the travel down to this small town to recruit new members for their guild, or to meet with old friends. You can also test your battle prowess here as many players tend to duel in the area. Also, the members of the Horde often come to pay a visit to the faire grounds located right beside Goldshire, even when the Darkmoon Faire is not in town.

-The Crossroads-
This is a Horde encampment located in the Barrens of Kalimdor. There are many RPers that come and go from this place, and what's better is that it is right down the road from Ratchet, a neutral goblin town that Alliance characters can get to.

-Ratchet-
This is the Horde hotspot on Thursday evenings. Located around the inn/tavern of Ratchet on said nights is an event called "The Laughing Zhevra." This event is for both Horde and Alliance, but is generally only attended by Hordies.

RP Groups
-The University of Kalimdor-
Saffiy, an Orc Hunter, is the dean of a guild known as the University of Kalimdor. They provide RP events in way of classes, lectures, and field trips to educate the Horde players on the history of Azeroth and many other aspects of gameplay. Every event is IC (In Character) and led by well seasoned RPers.

-Knights Hospitaller-
Jaques DemoLay (Character: Demolay) leads this group of Knights. It is the largest RP guild on the Alliance faction and incorporates characters from all walks of life. While mainly holding to the ideals of the Holy Light, they welcome almost anyone, save for Warlocks. They host amazing parties and beyond phenomenal storylines that span across factions.

-RealmPortal-
RealmPortal is a channel on the Shadow Council server that both Horde and Alliance are a part of. The channel is actually a branch of the RealmPortal website that was started by Lycros of the Horde. RealmPortal is a godsend and I recommend you check it out. What it is is a place for you to post RP logs, storylines, and other random entries in an online journal format for your character, all IC. It also has a podcast once a month with the happenings of Shadow Council, this podcast is affectionatly named "ShadowCast".

http://shadowcouncil.realmportal.com

If you would like a RealmPortal for your server, just go to that site and click "I would like a RealmPortal for my server" on the side menu.

Those are just a few of the RP highlights from Shadow Council. I hope this helped anyone that is aiming for a game to play in their spare time or something to become addicted to.

RP ftw!
