It’s been over a year since the ball started rolling with Identity Crisis #1, but this week DC’s Infinite Crisis finally begins. They’ve been laying out threads for years, tidbits, puzzle pieces that have all pointed inexorably to this point. And perhaps my favorite thing about the whole thing is, as closely as I’ve been following this storyline, I still don’t know exactly what the new Crisis is going to be. I find it remarkable that DC has been able to play this story so close to the vest even as they build up the buzz.
I’ve heard from a few people who feel that DC has dragged the story on too long. I completely disagree. A comic book story -- any story, for that matter - should be exactly as long as it takes to tell it. I haven’t felt any padding, any stretching, any “decompression.” If a story can keep my interest, I’ll stick with it for years. Heck it took Jeff Smith 11 years to finish Bone, and I was with him every step. Not only am I still interested in Infinite Crisis, I’m downright excited.
Here’s something else I’m excited about: Serenity. I was a late fan to Joss Whedon’s Firefly universe, but I’m a big one now, and the two times I’ve seen the film hasn’t been nearly enough. I’m talking it up, urging everyone to give it a chance, because it’s really a unique film, something you’ve never seen in sci-fi before. Heck, I’m even urging you all to at least read my review of it at Comixtreme:
MY SERENITY REVIEW. Give it a chance, c’mon.
