I had a good day today. I needed one, after all that's happened. Between the storm (and believe me, I know how lucky I am compared to the poor people in New Orleans proper or St. Bernard, Plaquemines and Jefferson Parishes) and all the crap at work, I needed a day to just relax. So today Jason and I decided to head to the movies. With JP still in lockdown, clearly, our usual movie theatre was closed, so we wound up going to Houma, where we caught The Brothers Grimm. Jason had some trepdiations about seeing it, but I've got faith in Terry Gilliam to deliver a good movie.
It was really very entertaining. Not Gilliams' best movie, but the way the film twists the Brothers into a legend in their own right, the way the screenwriter (whose name, I'm sorry to say, escapes me at the moment) pulls in bits and pieces from so many fairy tales... I love that sort of thing. I was very satisfied.
I was even more satisfied after the movie -- we had some time to kill, but not enough to catch another movie (St. Charles Parish is still on a 10 p.m. curfew), so we went to Books-A-Million, where we ran into several people I know, beginning with Mike Eunice, a Phi Mu Alpha brother who also happened to play percussion for us during The Pajama Game. We talked to him for a good long time before stopping at the coffee shop for a drink. While we were there, Jenny walked in, and we sat down and talked to her for about an hour and a half, catching each other up on our various Hurricane Adventures. It was great to see her -- I needed a good day with my friends. We also discussed getting the whole group together next weekend for a day in Baton Rouge. I'm sure we'll all be able to use it.
