So I got a notice in the mail from the DMV saying they needed proof that the car that got totaled a few months ago was no longer on the road. Apparently, the fact that they no longer had insurance documents wasn't enough. Problem -- I didn't have the title for the old car to send to the insurance company to get documents proving I no longer own the car.
So I called Ford Credit, who was very nice about sending me a title or applicable paperwork to send to the insurance company. My next step, I decided, would be to call the DMV to explain the situation and ask what I should do.
If there's anything worse than waiting in line at the DMV, it's waiting on hold for them. I called before my lunch break and was on hold for 20 minutes before the phone simply hung up on me. I called again and again was cut off.
I went to lunch. Since I got back I called no less than TEN times, each time being told "Please hold while I transfer your call" by the recording, then immediately hearing a dial tone. Finally I called them on my cell phone, which is where I am now, on hold, eating up my minutes.

Addendum to this post -- a few minutes after I put this up I finally got to talk to a real human being, who was actually quite helpful. She told me I needed to get the insurance company to fax them a document with the VIN number, vehicle description, date of the accident and my driver's license number and tell them that they were going to take possession of the vehicle, and that should (SHOULD) be the end of it.
Lord I hope so, I thought this whole mess was over with.
