The Lost Experience and DC Advance Reviews

So how many of you Lost fans out there have gotten completely sucked into The Lost Experience?

Yeah, me too.

For those of you who don't watch Lost -- well, first up, you're wrong. Second, allow me to explain. This week the creators of the show launched an online game called The Lost Experience, which allows fans to interact with the creators and even some of the institutions of the show throughout a series of websites. If you visit sites such as The Hanso Foundation, Oceanic Air, Gary Troup Books and The Valenzetti Foundation, you find clues to the game. These are the sites for, respectively, a research institute mentioned on the show, the airline of the doomed flight that stranded the characters on a desert island, an author who was among the passengers who died in the crash and a foundation that researches the same subject as the late Mr. Troup in his first book, which was mysteriously pulled from publication.

None of these are real, of course (although Hyperion Books -- one of ABC's sister companies in the Disney empire -- is publishing "Gary Troup"'s final, posthumous novel in real life). Fans are to examine these sites looking for clues, hidden links and secret passwords, which they then share with other fans in an attempt to unlock the secrets of the game and the show itself. This is an "Alternate Reality Game," where the false websites are windows into the world of the show. I've heard of such games before -- usually used to promote upcoming video games. This is the first time I've tried participating myself, and frankly, I'm enthralled.

I still get some work done, though. For instance, this week's DC Comics Advance Reviews, including...
