Summary: No matter how much Yixing hated working at the club, Jongin and his sweet lines all make it worth it.
Yixing was currently sitting at his favorite spot at his favorite cafe nursing a cup of his favorite drink and listening to his favorite ballad sung by his favorite singer. That’s basically all his favorites in one sentence.
It was 1pm in the afternoon and he’s taking this time to chill because he knows he’ll probably be busy at the club tonight, what with it being Friday in all. He’s currently working as a bartender in one of the more upscale clubs downtown. He likes his job, to a certain extent. He’s not really a big fan of clubs though, that’s why Friday night shifts are just a tad more tedious for him. He’s had enough of booming basses and people grinding on each other’s’ bodies half drunk, thank you very much.
Ballads, now that’s more his thing. He likes it how ballads are full of emotions, Nothings describes feelings of love better than ballads. He’s always getting bullied by Luhan, his best friend, about how much of a hopeless romantic he is.
Well, Luhan isn’t actually in any position to tell him that, in Yixing’s opinion. His best friend was now in his 6th year of being in a relationship with his first and hopefully, last, boyfriend.
So why does he bother working in a club you ask? Yixing has only one reason that can be said in one name made up of two words.
Kim Jongin.
Resident Club DJ, and the biggest fan of club music Yixing has been fortunate (or is it unfortunate?) to meet, and his steady boyfriend.

Yixing and Jongin first met a year ago, when got a text from unknown number saying he should come and pick a drunk Luhan up from Club Exo. If he could, he’s have texted Sehun to go and bring Luhan home but guessing from the situation that Luhan was drinking alone, he and Sehun must have had their usual ‘hate moments’. His worry for his best friend overcoming his inherent dislike for clubs, Yixing hurriedly got dressed and called a taxi. When he arrived, it was to a sight of a drunk Luhan with his head on the bar countertop, seemingly pouring his heart out to someone Yixing couldn’t see the face of clearly.
“Luhan!” Yixing called out, running to where his friend was seated. “What are you doing here? And where’s Sehun?”
The wobbly smile on Luhan’s face (and yeah, it does look drunk to Yixing) was replaced by a dark scowl as soon as he heard Sehun’s name. “That inconsiderate brat can live with himself from now on. We’re through!” All of a sudden, Yixing heard soft sobbing which then turned into some sort of caterwauling befort Luhan got up and bodily through himself over Yixing, causing both of them to topple to the floor. Luhan then went on a crying tirade about how Sehun came home smelling of a woman’s perfume a couple of times and how Luhan saw him meeting up with some woman in a jewelry store earlier in the afternoon. Caterwauling soon turned into hopeless sniffles and hiccups before Luhan fell asleep, still hugging Yixing tightly.
Yixing had half a mind to go call Sehun and kick his ass for making Luhan cry but he wanted to hear the other side of the story first. And knowing Luhan, he knew his best friend had a tendency to always assume the worst things. The confrontation could wait until morning.
With Luhan already asleep and calm, it was then that Yixing remembered that Luhan had been talking to someone when he arrived, and that someone hadn’t said anything for a while now. Yixing turned to look at said person to give his thanks when he stopped short.
An gorgeous face with smiling eyes and a soft smile greeted him. An Adonis with a face too handsome for his own good.
It must have been a few more moments before Yixing realized he’s just been blatantly staring at someone for a time that can almost be considered rude. Face flushing at the social blunder, Yixing dipped his head a little in thanks.
“Thanks for taking care of him. I’m sorry, I know he’s a little handful when drunk,” Yixing mumbled the words because of embarrassment, both for Luhan and himself.
The guys just shook his head before waving a hand. “It’s okay. He was pretty cute, actually.”
Yixing couldn’t have stopped the words coming out of his mouth if he tried. “He’s taken,” he blurted out.
Those dark eyes turned into smiling crescents again. “I know. Sehun, right? I was able to piece things up when he just went and threw himself over you.”
Remembering his and Luhan’s drama from earlier only made Yixing blush harder. “I’m sorry.”
Jongin shook his head. “It’s okay. I’ll count myself lucky if I ended up having a friend like you!” Blushing at the realization he just complimented someone whole-heartedly without knowing his name, Handsome Guy blushed before extending a hand in greeting. “I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Jongin, owner of this club and also Club Exo’s resident DJ.”

Yixing and Jongin met up a few more times after that. Opting to avoid the noise at the club and also to let Jongin relax (at least, that’s what Yixing tells himself. He just wants to avoid the club, to be honest), both often met up in quaint coffee shops.
The funny thing was, Yixing discovered that Jongin had a hobby of throwing random cheesy lines at him that usually would have made him cringe but instead, only made his heart flutter.
Like that one time Jongin met up with Sehun, Luhan and Yixing (all four of them unexpectedly became good friends) sporting a noticeable bump on the right side of his head.
When asked how he came to have such a bump, Jongin turned to Yixing and said, “I saw you outside and I was so enchanted by your beauty that I ran into the wall. Name and number please, for insurance purposes,” he replied with a grin. Yixing buried his head in his hands in shame as Sehun and Luhan guffawed in laughter.
There was also that one time when Jongin visited his house (yes, they’ve reached the stage where they visit each other’s homes) and was greeted by Yixing sans dimpled smile but with panda eyes.
“Hyung! You look… not so pretty. Didn’t you sleep well?” The younger asked as soon as they were seated on the living room couch.
Yixing took one of the pillows lying around and hugged it to his chest. “No, just wasn’t able to get enough sleep last night because of some stuff,” he replied with a yawn.
A few seconds passed and sensing Jongin was about to throw in some random line, Yixing was about to tell him to shut it but the other beat him to it.
“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because the reality that you’ll be seeing me today is better than seeming me in your dreams.”
Yixing’s reply was socking a pillow to Jongin’s face.
Moments like those are the happiest for Yixing but in his heart he was afraid to hope that Jongin harboured the same feelings as him.
One day, Jongin came to meet up with Yixing looking stressed, with eyebrows furrowed and everything.
“Is there anything wrong, Jongin?” Yixing asked tentatively, afraid he was encroaching on something private.
Jongin looked up, surprised. “Oh, I’m sorry. I was spacing out, hyung. What did you just say?”
Yixing shrugged. “Nothing. Just asking what’s wrong since you’re not your usual self.”
Jongin grinned sheepishly. “Am I that obvious?” Fingers continuously smoothing over unruly locks made Jongin’s agitation more significant. “Just that there’s a big gig at the club tonight, bigger than usual. But the bartender unexpectedly quit today because of a family emergency.”
“Don’t you know anyone else who can do the bar for tonight?” Yixing asked, concerned. Hey, it’s the music he hates, not the club itself and definitely not the owner.
Jongin nodded. “I have but they’re all unavailable. And I don’t want to put just anyone on for tonight. What if it’s a complete newbie and completely makes a mess of things?”
Yixing was torn. Actually, he knew someone who can do the job, has plenty of good experience and completely reliable. He took a deep breath.
“What time is it tonight?”
Jongin’s face brightened considerably. “You know someone, hyung?”
A nod. “I do.”
“Who is it?”
Yixing shook his head to avoid answering the question. “I need to go. Just message me the when and where, then wait for him at the club, ok?”
Jongin looked doubtful at Yixing’s dubious answers but he chose to believe in Yixing instead. “Ok. I owe you one, hyung.”

Later that night, imagine Jongin’s surprise when Yixing came to the bar in full bartender regalia, Sehun and Luhan in tow.
“Hyung! You’re the bartender?” Surprise was evident in Jongin’s question.
“Why the disbelief?” Yixing ribbed Jongin jokingly. “Think I’m gonna scare away your customers?”
“No, just… you never said anything about being a bartender!”
Laughing at the incredulity on Jongin’s face, Yixing grew serious. “Relax, just leave it to me, okay?” He dared to pat Jongin’s cheek before going to the bar and making himself familiar with things.
Seeing Jongin still standing like a pillar where Yixing left him, Luhan clapped him on the shoulder before trying to reassure Jongin again. “Relax. He didn’t tell you but he used to do this as a part-time job back when we were in college at Club 21,” Luhan said, naming one of the best clubs in the area. “Leave the bar to Yixing and go do your job!” Luhan said as he pushed Jongin towards the DJ booth.

The night ended well, so to speak. Guests were satisfied with the drinks and the music and all had fun.
As soon as things have calmed down, Jongin approached Yixing who was standing with his back to the bar top. “Excuse me, can I take a picture to show my friends that angels do exist?”
Recognizing Jongin’s voice the instant he spoke, Yixing laughed before turning around. “Where the heck did you get that cheesy line?”
Jongin laughed as well before continuing. “Hey! I’ll have you know it works wonders with the ladies!”
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m missing two vital body features to be called female, so those lines won’t work me.”
Jongin smiled some more before continuing in a soft voice. “Thanks a lot for today, hyung. You really saved my ass.”
“It’s nothing.”
“I was feeling a little off today, but you made it all better.” Jongin revealed single rose stem he was hiding behind his back. “I tried my best not to feel anything but I guess I failed.” Grinning, he lifted himself up over the bar top and landed just in front of Yixing, invading the others’ personal space before giving the latter the single flower.
“Would you like to stay with me here forever? Because really, you're kinda, sorta, basically, pretty much always on my mind.”
6 months later (Present time)
Realizing that Jongin probably overslept again, Yixing stood up to order something to go with his coffee. Something sweet to boost his mood. After ordering his favorite cupcake on display, he sat back down and was about to start eating when he heard a voice behind his back.
“Put down that cupcake… You’re sweet enough for me already.”
Blushing to the tips of his toes, Yixing hissed.
“KIM JONGIN!”
