“Whoever marries him has to agree to give up all rights to anything that will be purchased with his money. As far as I can tell, he or she will own nothing. In the event of a divorce, even the clothing he bought will remain with him. I don’t even know what he plans to do with all those clothes, if ever that happens. He will probably just find another gorgeous gold-digger who fit them. Or maybe he’d sell them so he could buy a case of engagement rings since he gives them out so often.”
“What is it you hate about the man so much?” Leeteuk asked. He’s already met the man in person and frankly, he thinks the man is likable enough. “I mean, he is a good boss, isn’t he?”
“Well, he has an office full of women for one, women who he never allows to do anything. He makes every decision himself, doesn’t even ask his team of beauties for any opinions, much less allow them to do something.” Jaejoong gripped the handle of his teacup until the handle almost snapped. “Jung Yunho can live in a deserted island all by himself.”
“Sounds to me like you just hate him because he has some qualities the same as those jerks you actually decided to go out with,” Leeteuk commented.
“Exactly! Heaven forbid I actually say these things to his face,” Jaejoong said. “He’s the typical playboy I hate the most. The longer the legs, the silkier the hair, the more he likes them, “Jaejoong scrunched up his face in disgust. “May it be man or woman, just beautiful and dumb is what he likes I’d say.” He smiled maliciously. “However, so far no one has been stupid enough to marry him when they realize that all they get out of the marriage is HIM.”
Seeing Jaejoong’s face, Leeteuk said. “Well, maybe we should change the subject. How do you plan to get a suitable business partner with the way you look now? I mean, how you look now is calculated to keep people away, right?”
“My! That was good tea, “ Jaejoong said. “I enjoyed your visit Teuk, but you really need to go now ‘cause I remembered I also need to be somewhere,” Jaejoong continued, making his way to the nearest door. Just as he was about to open it…
CRASH!
Jaejoong came back running to the living room. “What happened?” he asked worriedly, eyeing his friend up and down, shocked at seeing the broken glass on the floor.
Leeteuk feigned surprise. “Oh, you’re back. Nothing, just wanted to take your mind off of making me go home.” Leeteuk grinned.
Jaejoong’s eyes narrowed into thin slits. “Why, you little--!” before breaking out into a laugh which the other also joined. Jaejoong then sighed and sank back to the cushions. “I said don’t worry okay? I can find a suitable business partner on my own.”
“Like Jung Yunho perhaps?” Leeteuk went on with the teasing.
Jaejoong just rolled his eyes. “Not if I can help it. And before you forget, “ he said, giving his friend the evil glare, “better clean up what you just messed up, okay?”
As he was making his way to his desk next morning, Jaejoong was feeling particularly down. Leeteuk had ended up staying overnight, and when they both left this morning, Jaejoong to work and Leeteuk back home to change clothes before going to work as well, the former was overpowered by a sense of longing for friendship and companionship. Hence, he left his house almost feeling the worst since Hyunjoong’s death.
Feeling dejected, he got up to wash his face in the bathroom. As he was looking at himself in the mirror, he unexpectedly heard voices coming from the door and without thinking, he strained his ears to listen. If he wasn’t already in a bad mood, he would’ve been when he realized that one of the women talking was Jung Jessica, a woman who considered herself an authority on Jung Yunho just because they have the same surnames.
“Have you seen him yet?” Jessica gushed in a way that some people reserve for the Sistine Chapel. “He’s the most beautiful being to walk on Earth-tall, handsome, kind, understanding.”
“But what about what happened three days ago?” a second woman asked. Jaejoong remembered that Yunho had recently hired another secretary- for what, he has no idea. “That woman didn’t seem to think he was so wonderful.”
Hearing that, Jaejoong smiled. His sentiments exactly.
“My dear, you have no idea what that darling man has been through,” Jessica said as though talking about a war veteran.
Jaejoong wanted to cry out in frustration. Did Jessica never talk about anything but the Great Jilting? The Great Tragedy of Jung Yunho? Wasn’t there anything else to tell in her life?
“Three years ago, Mr. Jung was madly in love with a woman named Kim Yoojin,” Jessica said the name as though it was something vile and disgusting. “More than anything else, he wanted to spend his forever with her---“ Jessica continued. Less facts; more melodrama.
“And she left him?” the secretary asked, her voice awed.
“Sad to say, she left that dear man standing at the altar in front of their guests.”
“How awful it must have been for him. What was her reason? How can she do that to him”
Jaejoong tightened his jaw. “May be that loathsome jerk waited until the night before their wedding to present to her one of his equally-loathsome prenuptial agreements,” he thought. Of course, he wasn’t supposed to know about those things. It was Jung Yunho’s private work after all. But what can he do if all of Jung Yunho’s work was passed on to him?
“So that’s why all the women since then have left him?” the secretary asked. “I mean, look at the woman this morning.”
Earlier that day, Yunho’s latest fiancée had stormed into his office clutching a ring box in her hand. The office personnel don’t need to ask who she was or what she was there for because angry men and women clutching ring boxes in their hands were a common sight in the offices of Jung Yunho. On she went until she reached the inner sanctum: Jung Yunho’s private office.
Fifteen minutes later, the redhead fiancée had emerged, crying, ring box gone, but clutching a jeweler’s box the right size to hold a bracelet or a necklace.
“How could they do this to him?” people in the office had asked, all anger directed at the woman. “He’s such a lovely man, so kind, so considerate.”
“His only problem is that he easily falls in love with the wrong person. If he could just find someone perfect for him… He just needs somebody who can understand all that he’s been through.” With that conclusion, all sympathy was given to Jung Yunho. Except Kim Jaejoong’s, of course.
“So now he’s free again,” Jessica said in a hopeful voice. “He’s still looking for true love and someday, some lucky man or woman is going to become Mrs. Jung Yunho.”
The other secretary murmured her agreement. “The way that woman treated him was so tragic.”
At that, Jaejoong suppressed a groan. It seems that another recruit has been added to the office army constantly playing protect-the-boss.
Just then, Jaejoong heard Jessica ask, “What are you doing?”
“Nothing. Just giving the name a proper label.”
A moment later, Jaejoong heard Jessica give her agreement on whatever the secretary wrote before both of them left their posts outside the door.
Jaejoong waited for a minute before exiting the comfort room. Looking in a corner of a staff cabinet well-hidden from view, he saw wahat the fuss was all about. Long ago, someone (probably Jessica) had stolen a photograph of Yunho’s and had pasted it there. Then, she’d glued another stolen nameplate, also Yunho’s, under it. But now, before the nameplate was written “Miserably Jilted” before the name Jung Yunho.
Looking at it, Jaejoong smirked, before he pulled out a permanent marker from his pants pocket. He then proceeded to cross out the written “Miserably Jilted”, replacing it with “Macho Jackass”. Then for the first time that day, he felt much better.
Time flew fast and when Jaejoong finally stretched his aching back to look at the company clock, he was surprised to see it was almost 8. He spent half the afternoon at the company Christmas Party and only came up two hours ago to do some typing. Realizing that he already typed almost all that was needed, he fixed his table and slowly exited the office. He was in front of the elevator when he remembered he forgot to place a typewritten letter on Yunho’s desk. Sighing, he trudged back to his desk, took the letter and walked down the corridor to Yunho’s office. Knocking first just to make sure, he realized he was alone when he heard no answer. Carefully placing the letters on Yunho’s desk, he started to leave when his curiosity got the better of them, making him decide to look around the office. He looked around until he reached a bookshelf with one shelf filled with framed photographs. At the end was a silver-framed photo of a young man holding a string of fish. He was obviously a Jung, but Jaejoong had a nagging feeling that he hadn’t seen the man before from the countless Jung Family affairs that had been held at the company grounds. He picked up the photograph and decided to look closer.
“Seen all you want?” came a rich baritone that surprised Jaejoong, making him drop the photo onto the floor, promptly shattering the glass to pieces.
“I-i-im sorry,” Jaejoong stuttered. “I didn’t know anyone was here.” Bending to pick up the photo, Jaejoong can feel the eyes of Jung Yunho boring holes into his back. “I will pay for the damage,” he said while placing the pieced atop Yunho’s desk. Yunho still didn’t say a word, just continued frowning at him. “I don’t think the photo is damaged. Uh, is that a relative of yours? I don’t think I’ve seen him before.”
At that, Yunho’s eyes suddenly widened, and Jaejoong was suddenly afraid. They were all alone on the floor, all he really knew about the man was that a lot of his partners refused to marry him. Was it because of his loathsome prenuptial agreements or something else? His temper maybe?
“I must go,” he hurriedly whispered, then turned on his heel and ran away from the office. He didn’t stop running until he’d reached the elevator and punched the down button. “How embarrassing!” he said through heated cheeks. “Caught like a teenage girl snooping in my boss’ office! How stupid can I be?”
