Well, after not hearing from Steve Berman of Lethe Press for two months, despite sending him three polite reminders that he had not sent me the agreement to re-print, he contacted me this morning to let me know he was no longer interested in publishing my novel. Although he tried to intimate that it was my fault somehow, that by sending him three brief e-mails over a two month period that I was too "high maintenance," for him, I suspect he'd just lost interest in the project some time ago and was hoping I'd eventually just slink away. But, emotionally, I couldn't just leave it. It was too difficult every time I signed into my e-mail, secretly hoping that I would finally get my Agreement to Reprint (which he promised me the first week in May) when I checked my Inbox. So I kind of forced Mr. Berman's hand today and rescinded the submission. Only after which did he confirm that the whole thing was "dead." What a heart break. I suppose he can't have any idea how much this meant to me and how excited I was. People have no problem being casually cruel.
Ah well, I got to enjoy it for a couple of weeks at any rate.
And now I have closure.
