Sumo wrestling, feelings of malaise, and lazy people stealing my material.
The Trip
Finally I have the time to do one of these. I returned from my trip real late Wednesday night the 12th. If you want to read a detailed recap of how the trip went, read my MySpace blog
here. Make sure to make note of the entry where I talk about not updating my music blogs anymore, but instead starting up a new blog on Blogspot where I talk about movies and if you desire, feel free to comment on that new movie blog.
To summarize the trip, it had some fun moments but there were also some disappointments. There was no wrestling involved with the trip aside from me listening to wrestling/MMA podcasts (mostly from Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Weekly; yes, I was/am a member of the site) on my MP3 player while I did all that driving around.
FIP
Here are some thoughts about the show on the 1st of the month, the night before I left on my trip. Overall, it was a good time there and I’m glad I was able to see it due to my postponed vacation.
There was at least 175 there, and of course I just had to sit right by a young boy (who I was close by at the last show and he annoyed me then also) who yelled… loudly… almost constantly. I’m glad he was into the show and all, but it being ever-present and all just was too much for me. Why didn’t his parents try to control him?
1. Bobby Dempsey defeated Tim Donst, from Chikara. The bout was fine but Donst’s American tights were awesome, with Mt. Rushmore and the Lincoln Memorial on them.
2. 2 Fast 2 Furious defeated Caleb Konley-Brett Thunder. Good, but disjointed at times.
3. Bruce Santee defeated Grizzley Redwood. Good.
4. TJ Perkins defeated Nigel McGuinness. Pretty good.
5. Erick Stevens-Roderick Strong defeated British Lions (w/ Heartbreak Enterprises) to retain the FIP Tag Team Titles. Very good.
6. Chris Jones defeated Mike Sydal. Good
7. Rhett Titus defeated Brad Attitude. Pretty good.
8. YRR defeated DCFC after The Shane Twins interfered. Pretty good.
9. Davey Richards (w/ Heartbreak Enterprises) defeated Kenny King to retain the FIP World Heavyweight Title. Great.
The plan was for me to write about the tag titles match and the main event in a little more detail, but I just ran out of time and I had to leave on my trip before that could be done. So, I’ll mention that the tag was very good and there was a lot of action, with it being Texas Tornado rules and all 4 men doing stuff at all times. The finish was one of those deals where each team got a decision (pinfall for one, and submission for the other) and as there were 2 refs out there, one ruled the match won by the champs and the other ruled in favor of the heels. What ended up happening was that one ref went to the cameraman at ringside and looked at what he had filmed, and saw that the decision that favored the champs came a split second before the other decision, so the champs won. Sean Davis was furious with this. The main event was great stuff. It’s tough to compare it to the match they had in May, but both were contests that I enjoyed a lot. It was similar to May, with big moves, a long match, big moves being kicked out of, and all that. One thing I do have to mention, though, is that King took quite a beating in this contest. Like what happened in the tag title match, someone hit the ropes and I have no idea what caused it, but something went wrong and the guy whiplashed against the ropes before falling down. Ouchie, for sure. Then, Kenny did a move off the apron to the floor and wiped out Sean and Phil Davis, and his back went splat against the ground. Another ouchie. Not the best night for Kenny. The finish involved interference and all that. Someone online insinuated that this was TNA-level booking, and that’s total poppycock! It was standard for this fed and nothing like 4 ref bumps, 10 guys running in, and a SWERVE like what happens in most TNA main events, and it leads to the next show in October where the two matches I elaborated upon will have rematches, but they’ll be contested inside of a steel cage in order to prevent any interference… at least in theory. How that is TNA booking… beats me.
I do understand that there’s the problem with the economy and all and how it’s still affecting people today (I know an alarming number of people who have recently lost their jobs in the past few months) so that’s probably a reason why FIP appears to be having shows now only once every two months (and that may also be why Pro Wrestling Riot is MIA now) but it’s disappointing to me for selfish reasons. It seems to mirror how I feel about pro wrestling in general now. I’ve been a huge fan for the past 20 some odd years, and I’m having a hard time remembering a time when I was more disinterested in it.
No, I’m not like that pig in a roast David Tuthill (more on him in a minute) who’s all, “Fuck pro wrestling” like the disgusting slob he is, and I still enjoy going to shows in this state, hanging out with people there, and watching what goes in the squared circle. I just don’t really watch it-sure, I follow it, but don’t watch it-aside from the shows I attend. It seems like *all* the promotions around are doing stupid shit and it turns me off, especially TNA and WWE, who both have been horrible for years now. Even FIP, which had an entertaining last show, has stuff that makes me scratch my head in befuddlement, like if there’s going to be a resolution with the storyline involving Brad Attitude and Shawn Osborne and whatever happened to Damien Wayne in FIP, anyhow? Stuff like that just drops an anchor on my enjoyment of a promotion and its shows, to be blunt, and nonsensical stuff, no matter what, is a turn-off for me. I don’t know if it’s just me and how I’ve been feeling in 2009 or what, but pro wrestling just isn’t what it used to be. It’s not as much fun anymore. I realize that’s a similar feeling that many former diehard pro wrestling fans had before they lost interest in that form of entertainment and have migrated over to MMA-and with me, even I have paid more attention/watched more of that in recent times-but no matter the explanation, it’s a sad day when I have to feel this way about pro wrestling. I’m starting to think that’s a dominating theme amongst fans in this state, at least if you judge it by “the boards”, where now you rarely even get posts on there anymore. It could be that people just got fed up with how bad they are in general, but maybe my hypothesis is true also.
I Believe… This Stuff Doesn’t Make Sense
Yes, I Believe In Wrestling
and its latest show, and as always it’s the same old tune from them… random stuff happening randomly. Is Chasyn a heel now? Who the fuck knows! Me, it’s more like, “who the fuck cares?” (no offense, Mr. Rance). I was informed that The Heartbreak Express, among the most dominating heel presences in that fed, are now suddenly babyfaces with no explanation at all. Of course. The rest of the card is just random claptrap and I couldn’t possibly care less about that fed.
Then, there was another thread (which I won’t link to) which consists of genius booker himself, “Homeless Chic” Jared David St. Laurent, bloviating about stuff that must’ve come off the top of his head, stream of conscious style as he was at his keyboard. Saying that “WWE officials” didn’t want Chasyn vs. Zoe to happen? Saying that his new pal, video game player Todd Rogers, “signed some of my guys” (whatever the blue hell that means; it doesn’t look like from the results that was a part of anything that went on at the show, of course; what can a “professional videogame player/wrestling fan” do as a manager, anyhow? Help out, say, Nick Fame, if during the middle of a match an old Galaxa machine is wheeled in and he has to compete with Ryze in a random game on that machine? What a joke this fed is!), and I can’t take anything this oaf does seriously. Speaking of toadies…
Celebrate Good Times, C’mon!
A few days ago I heard some shocking news. On the morning of the 29th, David Tuthill is moving away… to Portland, Oregon! The reason why? He says that he and his poker (butt?) buddies want to live together to pursue the dream, whatever the hell that means.* The night before, Jared David will perform his wretched music in front of his slobbering toady fans, and the opening act won’t be Josh Rich performing with his 57 cats by stepping on their tails in a rhythmic fashion, but rather it will be a 20 minute roast of Tuthill. Me, I’m not a fan of roasts myself (mercilessly tearing apart someone you *like*? How highly illogical) but should it be a surprise that several of the toadies on MSL’s board have already stated that they’ll steal some of my jokes concerning Piggy to use for the roast? I guess I should be flattered by all the attention. A comment or two from this issue will probably end up in said roast; again, more flattery.
• Let’s be honest here, though, we all know that’s a cover story and Piggy is actually moving to Japan to start his sumo career! I hope he enjoys being a kohai to his senpai mentor and he has to do demeaning tasks such as washing his back, wiping his ass, and holding his towel for when his senpai steps out of the shower… oh wait, that’s the task that he and the other toadies had when dealing with their senpai Mister Saint Laurent! Nevermind… hopefully Tuthill can withstand the pressures of being away from his idol/lover/brother/ mentor/father figure MSL
By the way, I’d like for Tuthill to know that the Paul McCartney concert he and M are going to see at the new Cowboys Stadium in Texas*, that is NOT the first event ever in that stadium. It opened in early June with a huge country concert and since then has hosted another concert or two and some soccer games. And he says that I’m the one who’s wrong all the time…
• By the way, come to think of it, when I ponder the statement of how MSL was crushed back in *1990* when his parents went to a McCartney concert and didn’t bring him along, why did it take almost 20 years for him finally to go to one of his performances? Don’t give me the “Oh, why, MSL is “retired” now, you goof” argument, as that’s not going to work. Paul has been on a few tours since 1990, so I won’t listen to that claptrap.
Also on the MSL board, Shirt made a statement where he said that “(Blair) won” and then rattled off this, that, and the other things, and I’m supposed to accept that apparent apology and things will be all good with him again, right?
Wrong.
I’m not going to buy that cockamamie attempt by Tuthill there, as I know it’s all some sort of scam where he’ll try to make me look bad as he always does, and I’m not going to fall for it. I also didn’t fall for the other toady attempts to bait me by posting information online that I was supposed to see, get angry about, only for them to respond by saying that they were talking about someone else who happened to have the same name as the person I thought they were talking about… I was way too smart for that, which I know has to drive them batty.
As for Tuthill being away from home, I give it 2 months tops before he comes back with his tail between his legs, embarrassed that he made a stupid decision to move 3,000 miles away from all of his today friends. Given past history, you know this is going to happen. Whether it be his service of burning matches on DVD for sale to the public (I think I’m the only one that bought anything from him! The quality wasn’t all that great either) or doing a tournament online on the MSL board of the funniest people on there (he stopped doing it out of nowhere and after I griped about it, he-months later-skipped ahead to the finals, trying to make me look bad (but failed), to his recent blog of his and MSL’s journey to Dallas to see McCartney that only had a few posts and paled in comparison to my recap of my trip to Illinois and elsewhere, he’s just a failure all-around. I can’t imagine his stint in Portland (or Japan or whatever) will be any different.
I’ll be at Pro Wrestling Fusion’s show in Daytona Beach on Saturday night. The predicted weather for Saturday means that my attending the beach beforehand looks rather unlikely, but I’ll find something to do that afternoon.
