Christians drive me crazy

Jun 11, 2006 22:49

I am working hard to accept people of all persuasions, but I have the most trouble with christians, especially middle and upper income white christians, and especially if they're republicans or baptists, or capitalists.

Reason #1:

God is not a man. Men are not more godlike than women. And this whole male leadership thing is bullshit.

Reason #2:

Christians know less about Christ than most atheists, and they certainly don't follow his teachings--for some reason christians like Paul better than Jesus, maybe because his teachings are more easily skewed to fit any given agenda. It's hard to argue with "love the lord your god and love your neighbor" But just about anything Paul said is fair fundamentalist game.

Reason #3:

The sorostitute/good ol boy factor. Why is it that selfishness, materialism, back stabbing, general hypocricy, usury, superficiality, chauvinism and racism are tolerable, but lord god "help you if you if you are aware of that fact that you have a clitoris (oh wait, that would make you female, so you're useless to god anyway)

Reason #4:

Christians don't know shit about the beatitudes.

Reason #5:

SUVs, Suburbs, and Mcmegachurches

Reason #6:

"Christian" used as an adjective, especially when in conjunction with an item for sale.

Reason #7

Thomas Kinkaid

I went to church tonight. It was a "cool" church service, rock music (actually good music, not the standard fare), at night, downtown... but it was basically the same.

Male-centric, capitalist junkies in the seats, jargon gimmick preaching, guilt trips about drifting away from god.

Churches like this are still totally irrelevant, they just have new paint on those whitewashed tombs.

yes there are many sincere people there, yes god is somehow able to be found in churches, but it's just so foggy in there!

I need a watered down religion, where you can actually see your way around. where things are taken in perspective, and god is allowed to be "outside the box" to be outside christianity. I'm so sick of christians thinking they are the only ones who can see god, as though god is invisible unless you're looking through the right lens. but that lens is blurry, and the version of god that the christian church shows us is skewed and limited--even though we're supposed to see the infinite god...

I need to be around people who can question, who can use their god-given brains to gain understanding, as opposed to creating more divisiveness and limitations on the scope of heaven, god, and the gospel.

I think I'm beginning to be able to see god in shamanism, and in islam... I only hope I can someday say the same about christianity again.
