What an end to the work week!

Feb 04, 2006 15:41

On Wednesday Feb 1 and 2 I went to Lansing/Okemos for HIV Mod 1 Training for my volunteer outreach through McAuley... It started at 7:30 in the morning... The night before my work scheduled me to close, which meant I did not get out of there until 12:15am... I got home with some minor insomnia and was kept up until 2am, when I did pass out I knew I would only be getting 3 hours of sleep before I had to be up to make it to work. My alarms went off at 5am, which I remember, I sat down on my bed to watch some morning news and the next thing i knew it was quarter after 6..... I fucking FLEW out the house, grabbed a change of clothing for the next day and rushed to my car which was on loan to me for 2 days from the nazi parentals. I had 76 miles to drive in an hour of time... I majorly speed on 96 to Lansing. Luckily when you're speeding like a madman people move out of your way when you're on fast approach to the rear of their car! I made it with ample time to spare... Okemos was reached at 7:15... so I spent not even 45 minutes on the road :P

Day 1
The training for day one was awesome!!! I had some of the mod training booklet to look at over the previous week, so I assumed it would be boring with a spoonful of depression mixed in due to the topic of training. and BOY was I wrong! I had a blast!!! The other trainees were a lot of fun (Minus one of them, a mid-wife, who asked way too many redundant questions and was also hyper judgmental to those who were not of her own class system: Upper class, white, Catholic) Christina was the State Trainer on day one, she was an African American woman with a heart fo gold. Her knowledge base was vast, as would be expected by a state trainer. We went over the first 6 segments on that day, and got out 30 minutes early (4:30 instead of 5.) AFter class I went to one of the malls in Lansing it turned out to be the ghetto one go figure, half of it was vacant stores.... I also hit up Best Buy to try and find the Natasha Bedingfeild CD to no avail. After the mall detour I headed to my aunt and uncles place in Okemos. I arrived to them happily asking me questions about what I did for outreach. I think they had no clue that I was a homo esp when they asked us how well we were accepted in the gay bars by the patrons. After a glorious dinner of steak, green beans, fruit salad, and bread with garlic and oil dipping sauce My uncle and I went to the basement to watch the 6:30 news on ABC. We were treated to the news media criticizing Bush like a rabid dog. It was great! After the news I proceeded to pass the hell out while studying, only to be woken by my aunt telling me to go to the guest bed. lol

Day 2
This day fortunately did not start as early. On this day we went over the legal statues regarding HIV and disclosure along with discrimination. Due to the midwife described earlier we were not able to go over 2 entire sections of the booklets because she took up that much time asking stupid questions. Onward to the TEST! The entire class was nervous about the test, even though most of us knew the information they set up a lot of trick questions and warned us about them in a subtle way. that did not help our stress going into it. then we had to wait 2 hours for the final results, while we were waiting a spokesman from MAPP did a demonstration of proper condom use as well as a short role-play game... I got nominated by my classmates to be the "Devil" conscious in an argument over weather a fictitious person named Harold who was on a cruise and had a sour life going on when he met a gorgeous women who wanted to fuck him without protection... It was funny because the person playing the "Angel" persona and I got into it just like they do in cartoons. only unlike the cartoons, I won!!! as a side note the Angel said "What if she gets pregnant?!?" and my instant reply was "You'll be in mexico you can find a back alley abortionist!!!" Jaws dropped when I said that, but then laughter ensued. I mean seriously how often can you trivialize something as serious as that?!? lol. After Chris from MAPP concluded his presentation (Chris was a HOT Asian American who was muscular... I was DROOLING!!!) we got our tests back. after much nervousness I found out that I passed with a 94%!! So now I am certified in Mod 1 HIV Basic Training!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!

After taking Mod 1 I am excited to find out of McAulley will let me take the next 2 modules. If they do I will be certified to do HIV testing on clients there. I won;t be certified to give the results though, you need the counseling trainings after that. Now I have my foot in the door to the trainings and Ric is going to see what he can do for me to take the next levels, I just have to show him some major commitment to the organization. and I am ready to give all the commitment I possibly can.
