So we felt two earthquakes here in Missouri. The first one was at 4:37 this morning. I woke up to it, disoriented, thinking the cats were getting into something and then woke Nathan up and asked, "What's happening?". He said, "I think it's an earthquake." It didn't last very long and we went back to sleep. No damages here (though there were in Eastern Illinois).
Then at about 10:15 a.m., there was another one, though everyone, even the Post-Dispatch seems to think it was just an aftershock. The USGS has it listed as a 4.6 earthquake. I was with the eighth graders on a field trip to watch our high school's musical. The acoustical tiles and the set started to rattle, but that was really about it. The kids were a little freaked out, but we never had to go into any sort of emergency drill.
I'm really looking forward to the end of the school year. Things have been going well, but I'm just ready for summer. I did sign my contract for next year and once I've walked in on the first day of the next school year, I will have tenure. It was really nice to see "permanent" instead of "probationary" on the top of my contract. I also liked the salary, which will go up a bit more once I complete my +30 hours (hopefully by January 2009).
This summer should be fun. Nathan and I are both singing in the ensemble for Otello at UAO. I'll be doing some coursework as well as returning to Opera Theatre Saint Louis' Music! Words! Opera! workshop. We're also looking to do some minor home improvements (a new, non-wood front door and a major closet organization overhaul). Nathan will also be busy on the job hunt. So, we'll have lots to keep us busy.
That's really it right now. Hope all is well with everyone out there!
