Ang It-Hong Memorial Album "Love's Flower"

Nov 24, 2010 19:39

I posted a short bit on Ang It-Hong's death here earlier this year.  Since his death, his sons Eric Hung and Hung Jung helped put together an album commemorating his songs with the help of various pop artists.  The album contains new songs inspired by Ang It-Hong, such as "阿爸" ("Father") written by Jay Chou and Vincent Fang.  (This report notes that this is odd considering that Jay's parents are divorced and he lives with his mom.)  There are new versions of Ang It-Hong's songs, such as Crowd Lu's "PK version" of "思慕的人" ("Person I Admire").  There are more medley-type songs and even songs that mix the older tunes with new tunes.  There's quite a bit of Taiwanese/Hokkien, as would be expected, but also a lot of Mandarin.

Here are samples of various songs from the album:

I used "Formosa" as a translation for "宝岛" because it also refers to Taiwan, but "Taiwan" would be "台湾."  "Formosa" comes from the Portuguese phrase "Ilha Formosa," which means "Beautiful Island," which is what "宝岛" means.

Track 11 has "New" in the name because it borrows from Ang It-Hong's "放浪人生" ("Unrestrained Life").

"Ashin" refers to Mayday's vocalist, of course, and other members of Mayday played instruments for tracks 5 and 10.
