姚苏蓉 Yao Surong

I'd never heard of Yao Surong until I watched Jay Chou's movie "不能说的秘密" ("Secret"). In the scene pictured above, Ye Xianglun shows Lu Xiaoyu his favorite song, "情人的眼泪" ("Lover's Tears"). Keeping the movie in mind, Yao Surong's singing career would have had to have started at least in the 70s. According to this Baidu article, she was a famous Taiwanese singer in the 60s. (According to the article, her granddaughter asked her if that was her voice in the movie. Yao Surong says that Jay is very talented. She's watched "Curse of the Golden Flower" and listened to his duet with Fei Yu Qing, "千里之外.") She's released many albums, but it's hard to download many of her songs over the Internet. I've just ordered a CD of her songs via YesAsia, but I've found a few other songs that aren't on that CD besides "情人的眼泪," so I'll share the few I've found.

I'd never heard this song before, but the song in the video above is "像雾又像花" ("Like Fog and Like a Flower").

I've previously uploaded Long Piao Piao's version of this song. I don't have the duet version of this song, but here's Yao Surong's "月儿像柠檬" ("The Moon Is Like a Lemon").

And a few more songs:

几度夕阳红
一路顺风
谁来爱我

On a completely random note, I'd like to share my toothbrush holder. My old one broke and was leaking some kind of green liquid. I didn't want just any toothbrush holder this time: I wanted something 青花瓷-style, so you can see what I bought here. I have tranquility (靜). Maybe I'll get happiness (樂) at some point to actually use for tea, though I suppose if I found something else to use as a toothbrush holder, I could start using my mug for tea, since I've kept the lid and the holder for the tea. (After the 菊花茶 I had in New York, bags just don't seem as good!)

secret, jay chou, song download, oldies, yao surong
