More adventures in Hannele's car!

May 31, 2003 10:36

This happened a few days ago, but oh well. After concert band, Alex and Shivi need rides home because their usual ride is sick. After circling the school once, we congregate in the back breezeway and get in the car. And it was good...for a time. We make it up halfway Edward to William (streets, not people), before the car gives a big jerk after stopping behind a car. After which the car decides that changing gears is a chore it will only do after much grunting and very, very belligerently(grrrRRRRR!bumprrRRRRRR!bump). Once we get to the intersection at William, the car pouts and refuses to change gears at all, and would much rather just let me rev the engine for all its worth.

We coast into the Bell Canada building under the assumption that there would be some sort of phone useful to us. Silly us. We go across the street to the Health Unit where Shivi's dad works, but he's gone home already. All this time there is a light drizzle overshadowing everything. We go to the Blood Services building next door, but also closed. Around this time Alex notices a figure that looks vaguely like his mom walking across the parking lot where she works, so he starts running like a madman. Me and Shivi walk across, and we note Alex's limbs flailing besides a car that we hope does indeed contain his mother. Yay! We actually have luck, because it did.

Alex's mom's friend takes us back to my car to gather our things, and we go to Alex's house. After some laughter over our present situation, Alex's grandpa gives us all rides back to our respective houses.

After dad gets home, he gathers some tools and we venture back to the car, which has by now collected a rather nice pool of red oil beneath. The tranny fluid line had burst, but since they usually do burst right near the connection, my dad could just snip that bit off and stuck it back in. We still have to buy some more tranny fluid, but the car should hold up for a few days until my dad can get some new hosing for it. I am still waiting for that tell-tale thump, but it has yet to come again.
