The sound of white noise

May 23, 2007 21:38

In my quest for a decent amount of sleep, I've resorted to a white noise generator. Some models I've looked into play nature sounds, which aren't very effective when combined with the sound of traffic going by. The model I finally settled on uses an internal fan to create a rushing air sound. I had it on while reading earlier, and found myself drifting off without realizing it. I finally crashed around noon, and was shocked when I woke up at 9. Yeah...I could get used to this :).

The folks may or may not be going on a trip this weekend. It all depends on what the vet says in regard to their horse. Long story short, it injured a leg awhile back and requires frequent bandage changes while the wound heals. I likely bitched about it in an earlier entry. I don't mind if their world revolves around the bloody thing, but now it's starting to throw me off. I really hope I don't sound like a sociopath :P. You see, if I go over to their place on my first night off, I rarely get more than four hours of sleep. Thankfully I've been going over there the second night off for the past couple of weeks. Last night, the old man tells me that they'll want me to come over on my first night off since they're doing riding lessons on the other night. Frustration. He saw the look on my face and said he'd talk to mom about possibly changing the day they do that. Normally I wouldn't have reacted like that but, because it was the first night off and sleep had been faily nonexistent my nerves were a little frayed. On another note, Cassie ended up getting surgery on a leg she injured a long time ago. It'll take a couple of months for a full recovery, but for two weeks or so she has to wear a plastic hood so she doesn't bite the stitches out (Cassie's a dog, by the way). I feel really bad for her, because if she's alone she starts to whine and it seems like she's feeling just miserable. If the folks do end up going, I'll be dog/house sitting this weekend. Hopefully I can keep her comfortable.

There's a lieutenant's job opening at the county. I've thought about going for it, but likely won't. I can't just throw away eight years at the state like that. It's tempting though...
