XD

Merry belated Christmas, peeps, and a happy New Year to come ~

Year in review:

January-June: … I can hardly remember anything at all about the first six months of this year off the top of my head, tbh. Is that odd? Except that the winter was a very cold one. In February the sky was empty and low. A weight in all directions, but devoid of energy. The houses crouched down to hibernate and I trying to work from under my feather duvet could not warm myself to the edges. Spring was a deliverance as much for the lifting of the sky as for the slight increase in warmth.

Another thing I can’t remember is which of the winter events I remember were from before New Year and which were after. This doesn’t so much bother me emotionally, but in rational terms not remembering the year stuff happened seems to be pushing the limits of absentmindedness XD. otoh, seasonal conditions are built into the physicality of one’s memories, while dates are as arbitrary to me as the tones on Chinese words - got to keep an eye on the little buggers or they’ll slip out from underneath you. XD I started keeping a diary in the Easter holidays, partly as a prod to shift myself from depressive inertia, and partly so that I could check back and remember the order shit happened in, so the following is more temporally precise:

July (2nd): Graduated innit.

July-August: After I got used to the idea of the world still existing after July 2nd … Let’s becoming an accountant! Followed by, August: Let’s NOT. XD Well, really, who on Earth would believe my attempts to feign interest? I quite enjoyed doing the aptitude tests, though. Tanked at interview for obvious reasons.

September: Let’s becoming an artiste!
… As of present I’m still working on it XD Aiyah curling up inside, still too embarrassed/inadequate to own my ambitions rite. I can feel guilty about almost anything so may as well plough on regardless. Really, I need a few months’ distance to write about anything comfortably - but by then I will have forgotten anything that’s not written down anyway. XD

Speaking of which, it’s a damn good thing scanned images keep the date of creation in their metadata, otherwise the following meme would be impossible XD:

January: Got tablet. This has been great just for the possibilities it opens up. Not so great are the hand-eye co-ordination issues XD. You would think this would either make tablet drawing completely impossible, or you would acclimatise totally and stop noticing that you aren't drawing where you're looking, but no, it seems to remain as a minor but consistent impediment.

February: Very little to speak of. A few digital sketches.

March: I totally thought I painted this image in January, but there you are. Most of the output for this month is doodles on http://mrdoob.com/projects/harmony/
ETA: It WAS January! orz

April: Forays into watercolour. Also, SSBB illo.

May: Barely anything WK_AU! how could I forget. Couple of sketch memes for Nanomango.

June: This hug, and another SSBB illo. Worked quite a bit on Nanomango, but didn't produce a postable comic. Started using markers.

July: Loads of random crap. I was studying, but not in a very focused manner. Thinking of Nakamura Asumiko's strange, sensual, elongated figures when I drew this, esp. the hair.

August: Gave up. XD I painted this teapot though at the end of the month while visiting friends and was encouraged by the result.

Following which, September: started studying properly. The rest of this entry is an inventory for my own purposes, I'm afraid/
-study of figure proportions, perspective &c.
-IB illo
-walk cycle animation
Signed up for drawing class at the end of September.

October: Pilgrimage of sorts (hiking). SSBB comic (rejected). Learning gouache.

November:
charcoal treeeeees
yuletart
another IB illo
watercolour from photos
celtic knotwork
some Gormenghast stuff

December: Dog. lots of pencil drawing - whippets, human figures, faces, hands, rooms. copying Utena backgrounds. drawing on cel acetate.

Must think of what to do with this journal.
