My new album of original music is finally finished. I got done with the final track today and then mixed and mastered the CD. The title of the new CD is Nocturne. There are two things about this CD that different than the rest. First, it will be released under my own, god-given name, instead of DJ Blackwidow. That tired old queen has been officially retired. Secondly, the length of the album is shorter than previous albums. This new CD only has 11 tracks, and no bonus remixes. The reasoning for this is that I wanted quality over quantity, plus I didn't want to burn myself out again. I wanted to end it while on a creative high. I have another musical project in the works and I didn't want that one to feel like a chore.
With those things being said, the new CD is a great example of taking a specific theme and writing songs about it. Nocturne literally means, a work of art created about the night. All of the songs written for the album were composed at night and are about the nighttime. Here is the final tracklisting:
01 Beneath The Sunset
02 Night Falls
03 Crystal
04 Scorpio and Scotch
05 Insomnia
06 Nocturne
07 The Labyrinth
08 Shadowplay
09 Patchouli Incense
10 Night Vision
11 Roots
I really went the ambient route on the album. There are influences of Loreena McKennitt, Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), and Banco de Gaia. The album cover is nearly finished. I just need to find a better font. I am giving the completed album the once over tonight and plan on uploading to Jamendo either tomorrow or Friday, so stay tuned for more info!
