I'm back

So here is a summary of our trip to Portland. We were pretty poor so couldn't do as much as we'd like and couldn't rent a car so we didn't stray too far. It may be boring, but its just so I can keep my memories fresh.

Saturday- We arrived in the evening and spent the night eating dinner and playing with the kids. Jillian started saying our names pretty quickly, except she calls Peter "Poo-boo" (she's 1 and a half), she called me "essi" at first, later "jess".

Sunday- Pete and I went to Washington Park and visited the rose gardens which were in full bloom. Next, we headed over to Powell's the world's biggest (and best) book store. I could spend days in there. I bought some cool used books and funky papers and stickers from Japan. We stopped at a PF Chang's, and a gelato bar for desert. We also walked around the Pearl District and checked it out.

Monday- Went with my sister and the kids to get their pictures taken. Later, Pete and I went to the Columbia Sportswear Outlet, to see if we could get any deals, and also the gigundo REI store out there. Spent more time with the kids when we got back, relaxing.

Tuesday- Babysat the kids in the morning, brought them for a picnic to a local park on the Columbia River, that has a view of two major mountain peaks. Later, Pete and I headed to the Columbia River Gorge, a scenic drive, and also did a hike through Latrouell Falls. Afterwards, headed up to Hood River, this really cute town along the river that is similar to a beach town (its the windsurfing capital of the US). Got back and had a few beers with my sister's husband who had been away until today.

Wednesday- Spent the whole day on the coast, visiting Cannon Beach Oregon and Ecola State Park. So beautiful there, makes the Jersey shore look like poop. There are mountains and cliffs that back up on to the ocean and we did a hike on a trail on one of these. Ate lunch and dinner out at cute little local places, wandered the town and picked up some of our favorite Oregon (Wilamette Valley) wines.

Thursday- Went to the zoo with the kids and my sister, then to Northwest 23rd, the coolest city neighborhood ever. Lots of cool shops and good coffee places and beautiful buildings.

Friday- Got up early and played with the kids all morning before heading out. I cried A LOT.

Here's a random pic, probably too small.:
