Fic: The Grain, Part II

“So, Finch, you didn’t ask me here to play Julia Child, I guess.”

He braced himself in unease at the direct approach she had chosen.

“The flowers were get well wishes, right? You gonna tell me how you found out about my… my health issues?”

Her voice was small and brittle now.

“That’s what you invited me here for, isn’t it? To gloat about your ( Read more... )

Very nice. Though you know I don't see Carter and Reese together, it did tug my heartstrings, considering what he said at the end of BabyBlue (that I quoted in my newest story, too). And I love the idea of Finch having Carter over for a dinner like this. He's so sweet in his way.

As soon as I read the name "Danvers" I knew were it was from, and then your explanation of how the one from the novel and her care for her dead employer made it make sense.

Lovely story. Oh,and thanks for that explanation of why you marked it as gen and het at the same time. :)

I don't see any babies, or declarations of love, or lasting happiness for these characters. They seem to me too strange, unconventional, extraordinary, and doomed for those outcomes. But that's just me. Hey,it's all of us. One of the main reasons I'm attracted to these characters is they have set themselves apart from the rest of the world. Taking on the irrelevants, Finch and Reese know they can't have a normal life. Fusco and Carter could come closer, but it's not likely. I love characters that are willing to sacrifice their own happiness in order to achieve the greater good ( ... )

Reese spent much of season one coopting Carter and Fusco into his makeshift family, often in direct opposition to Finch's express wishes. This is apparently the way he works best, in a team environment composed of several disparate individuals. Reese is not looking for a one-on- one but a family. Whinch is what he is deliberately putting together, IMO.

It's an intriguing question as to why he wants Carter with him on this mission to recover Finch. He clearly believes he works better in a team rather than solo. He needs back up and she is his preferred choice. Also interesting, Reese brought the dog to Carter's apartment the second time he broke in to ask her to join him on the road trip. He was introducing Carter to Bear, more family-building, IMO.

Why can't they have normal lives? Reese seemed to desperately want a normal life during the first season. POIs lives he coveted the most were Daniel Tully's and Scott Powell's because they had loving wives and children. I think what is sad is that they don't think they deserve normal lives because of their pasts. Should they have to sacrifice their own happiness for the greater good? I guess that explains why more people don't seek the greater good. They are a group of lonely souls trying to be less lonely. POI is great because all "ships" are both relevant and irrelevant. IMO, they may eventually find happiness but not necessarily with each other. There are no OTPs or endgames on POI.

Why can't they have normal lives? Well, for one thing, they spend all their time trying to save the irrelevants. They put themselves in danger on a daily basis for strangers. I kind of doubt wives or girlfriends would appreicate not seeing them for days on end while they follow people around the city. If they had kids, they wouldn't be able to put themselves in danger without a thought to the consequences ( ... )

I apologize if it was wrong to comment anonymously, because I don't have anything to hide, I just don't have a livejournal account. OTP and endgames are not related and again I apologize for the lack of clarity in my post. Thank you for your response to my comment.

Oh, it's not wrong and I'm sorry to have sounded as though it were. As it's Blacktop50's journal,it's up to her to determine if she minds anonymous replies anyway.
I apologize for making you feel badly or unwelcome. I didn't think you were being anonymous because you were being argumentative and suspected it might be because you don't have an account. (you should set up one, it's a lot of fun-- I've been here for a number of years now and am always glad to help newcomers, btw.) I just felt awkward not knowing to whom I was talking. No big deal, though. It's okay.

I know you put a lot of thought into what you said and actually the only thing that wasn't clear to me was the part about OTPs and endgames. Feel free to go over to my LJ and read sometime. Not all my posts are POI related but I am talking a lot about the show these days.

Thank you! I feel so much better! I am new to livejournal and I don't know if what I am saying comes over correctly. I love Person of Interest and love all the characters. I agree with you that Reese's relationship with Finch is the most important, but I love how Reese and Finch's relationship with Carter is evolving. And will check out your livejournal account

I'm glad you feel better -- I didn't want to make you upset or sorry you posted.

Yes, their relationships are all evolving, I agree.
Feel free to look at the tags on my lj to find my POI posts. (my tags are in alphabetical order down the right hand side of my lj page. Look for "person of interest" and click on it and all my poi posts will come up, newest first.) And welcome! LJ can take some getting used to but it's a fun place to hang out and there are many different interests represented here. I am interested in several different fandoms and also things like crafts too.

Hi Angee, Welcome to the wonderful world of POI. I agree with you on the evolving nature of the relationships on this great show.

I am glad that your reading of my story has prompted you to such a detailed reading of the text and of the issues it raised. I hope you get a chance to read more of my stories and leave your comments there as well. The more the merrier, I say!
