Fic: The Grain, Part II

“So, Finch, you didn’t ask me here to play Julia Child, I guess.”

He braced himself in unease at the direct approach she had chosen.

“The flowers were get well wishes, right? You gonna tell me how you found out about my… my health issues?”

Her voice was small and brittle now.

“That’s what you invited me here for, isn’t it? To gloat about your ( Read more... )

Oh, Joss...(I really, really need to put a box of kleenex next to the computer and not halfway across the room!) This was so sad and sweet at the same time. I loved Harold giving her the hug and wiping her tears with the oven mitts. There is such a sweet heart underneath those lovely tailored vests and I know that John and Joss both see it.

..the oven mitts crossed over her back like quilted wings.". That.. that just about did me in... it's a very touching description. Will John ever figure out what was going on? He's a pretty observant guy (to say the least)....

Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

I'm glad that this story touched you. And you quoted one of my favorite lines about their embrace. John is very observant, but between them I think that Harold and Joss will make sure he doesn't find out. No good can come of it now.

I appreciate your taking the time to leave such a lovely comment.

You have given us another wonderfully written story, and I thank you. This was touching, moving, sad, and I loved the depth of emotions coming from Harold and Joss. Thank you again!

I'm sitting here feeling quite sad but also with a little smile on my face. Sad at the poignancy of what Carter is going through, and the smile is for her interactions with Finch. I just loved this. It was so unexpected (the plot itself) and fresh and personable. :)

I was going for all of those emotions (sad, amused, touched) so I am delighted to hear that you felt this way about the story.

Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment.

My dear Blacktop, I don't know if I can finally leave a coherent comment after reading this three times yesterday and once again this morning, all simply accompanied by abject weeping. So this may just be a series of incoherent and emotional ramblings. But this story has such a huge impact on me because I too lost three "precious grains" and in the exact same order as your Carter did before finally being blessed with my two beautiful boys. It is something you truly do not ever completely recover from, but I have come to accept and be at peace with. I hope Carter can too, and with Finch's slightly awkward but tender and sweet sympathies (as well as her mother's), I think she will ( ... )

Dear mamahub, thank you for these heartfelt comment. I am humbled at your willingness to share your own personal heartbreak and I'm sorry if my story has led you to suffer again. As we spoke about, having two beautiful boys (or grown men, in my case) is truly the blessing of a lifetime. Now you are making me cry ( ... )
