[series]: Haibane-Renmei
[character]: Reki
[character history / background]:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haibane_Renmei Reki was born alone in one of the wings of Old Home from a cocoon. (All Haibane are born from a cocoon. It is a large round hard shell filled with fluid that grows from a puffball into a sphere several times as big as the Haibane it holds. The size of the cocoon depends on the size of the Haibane.) Nemu and Kuramori found her in a boarded up room during winter. Reki wings had already come out from her back and she was lying on the floor, blood on her wings and clothing. Kuramori ran to her side, but was startled by the fact that Reki had black tipped wings. It was these black tipped wings that made Nemu and the others fear her at first.
After being cleaned up Reki was asked what her cocoon dream was. She was told that the Haibane are named after their dream. Reki could not recall her dream, though and so was not given a name right away.
Kuramori took Reki to see the Communicator of the Haibane Renmei soon after. Reki was given her name then, because she could recall pebbles on the ground from her dream. Reki means small stones. It was then that Kuramori asked the communicator if there was anything that could be done for Reki's black tipped wings. Normally Haibane are not allowed to talk in the garden in the temple, but Kuramori was just too worried about Reki and had spoken out instead of using the bells that are normally used. The Communicator told them how to make a dye from the plants in the western woods.
The dye took a long time to work however, and Reki started to cut off her wing tips. The other Haibane and feathers (the young Haibane that do not work because they are so young) still were not trusting her and she felt that if she cut the black out of her wings she wouldn't be disliked anymore. Kuramori slapped Reki when she found out, but then hugged her close. Kuramori said she would always be there for her; that Reki didn't have to hurt her self anymore and that it would be okay. It was then that Reki decided to trust her.
It was on one of the trips to get the plants for Reki's dye into the woods that Kuramori became very sick. Nemu was very upset by this and said she would blame Reki if Kuramori died. This sickness was actually what brought the girls closer, though. They took care of Kuramori together and became friends. Because Nemu was now friends with Reki the others also started to trust her as well.
Because Reki had no job up until that point and she took such good care of Kuramori, Reki was given the job of taking care of the newborn and the feathers. She was given a large room to live in and they also named it the guest room for when newborns arrive. That way Reki could watch over them.
Two years after Reki came into Glie Kuramori went beyond the gates on her day of flight (it is when a Haibane is able to leave the city as all Haibane will eventually do. It is unclear why the Haibane are meant to leave, but if they do not have a day of flight then they lose their halo and wings and are forced to live apart from the humans and other Haibane. They grow old and eventually die.). This was very, very upsetting to Reki. Kuramori was the first person Reki put her trust in and now she had left her. They didn't understand The Day of Flight then because no one had told them about it. Nemu looked it up in the library and told Reki, but she still felt let behind.
It was then that Reki decided to run away from Old Home. Her wings had not been treated in a while and the black on them was showing. She was crying in the rain when Hyohku found her. It was then that Reki was brought to the Abandoned Factory to live. She became close friends with Hyohku and Midori, but wouldn't stop crying about Kutamori leaving her.
Hyohku decided to try and take her to Kutamori then, by driving a steak into the wall. It is not know what exactly happened when they reached the wall, but Hyohku was almost killed. Because of this the Haibani-Renmei forbid Hyohku and Reki from going into each-others districts. She was looking for salvation in Hyohku but didn't find it. She shut herself off from others even further then.
In present time she has decides to take care of Rakka; a Haibane's cocoon she finds. The main focus of the story is how Rakka grows and learns in Glie. Reki is also a painter now. She paints her dream along with other things.
It is found out that Rakka is also sin-bound like Reki when her wings start to develop black spots. Reki helps Rakka make the dye for her wings as well. This brings the girls closer together.
However, Rakka is forgiven of her sin and this makes Reki jealous of her. Reki is always waiting to be forgiven from her sin, though she is scared to ask for that forgiveness.
Things are changed when Reki is given the true meaning of her name; the one that was run over. When she reads this the rest of her dream comes back to her. The dream is of her death, the day that she abandoned herself and was run over by a train. Reki tells Rakka that she was just using her to find salvation and tells her to leave. When faced with her own curse Reki is finally able to call out to Rakka, which frees her from her tormenting dream. Rakka had left when she was told to but came back shortly after and was able to save Reki from the train that morphed from the wall when the dream was broken. The meaning of her name is changed to the one who is stone. It is also explained that she was a steeping stone for the weak. That even if she was only helping people at first to help herself, it became her true nature over time. Reki becomes a truly kind person/
It is found out that Reki painted much more then just her dream after she leaves and then she truly cared about the people and places she had seen while at Old Home.
[character abilities]: Reki is a normal girl in most every regard other than her wings and halo. She has the ability to move her wings at will because they are a part of her body, but they will not let her fly. The halo is also a part of her body, but only serves as a soft glow of light.
[character personality]: Reki is a quite person. Because she was feared as sin-bound when she was first born, she has trouble trusting others. She puts up a strong front to cover up how sensitive she really is. Everything that happens affects her, even though she won't always show it. She hides her pain behind a fake smile and helping others to dull the pain of her sin.
Despite this Reki is a very kind and caring person. She takes care of the feathers and is always kind to those around her. It is said that this is only an act to try and become a good Haibane and be freed from sin, but that over time it becomes her true nature. She does complain about how everyone seems to gather around her, but it is made clear that she actually likes it. She deeply cares for everyone, even if she doesn't fully trust them.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: While Reki is walking into the woods after being freed from her sin.

[Accidental Voice Post]
Um, what?
This isn't the western wood at all. I know that's where I was headed…
It's really hot here too. I guess I don't need my wing covers or jacket.
*Rusting as noise as she takes them off and then flaps her wings*
But where am I? I don't think I finished my day of flight…
Hah, good one Reki. Like you know what the day of flight is supposed to be like.
Is this what's beyond the walls?
*Sounds of her getting out a pack of smokes, lighting up and then taking a drag*
It just doesn't feel right… I should try to find Kuramori.
[third person / log sample]:
The cold night air felt really good as Reki walked along the path to the western wood. Reki flapped her wings inside the wing covers as she helped her hands above her head and a cigarette lightly in her lips. The nightmare was finally over. The journey had been so long.
Rakka had been her bird, the answer she had been looking for. It made Reki grin. She had been so jealous of Rakka when she was forgiven. Rakka was a really nice girl. Reki would really miss her.
In fact, Reki would miss everyone. She had grown really attached to the others, the feathers too. Who would take care of them? Maybe Nemu, but she slept too much. Reki smiled. Nemu wouldn't have to worry about her anymore. Perhaps even she would find her day of flight soon. Nemu deserved it.
They all deserved this wonderful feeling. The day of flight just made everything feel right. Also, when they did travel over the wall they could be together again. Reki truly believed that. She wanted to see Kuramori.
Reki paused for a moment. Kuramori. A new energy flashed in her body as she walked a bit faster. Kuramori will be so happy for her! Reki couldn't wait to tell her all about what happen… well, could she?
Flicking the ash from her cigarette as she walked normally again, Reki though more. Would they remember each other? No one knew what waited for the Haibane on the other side. Reki hoped that everyone would remember; she wanted it. Then they could all be together and happy, out side of the walls.
Dropping her cigarette on the on the ground she rubbed it into the soil with her foot. Yeah, they had to remember. Everyone who Reki knew and who had gone over the wall would be there with tons of stories to tell. Also, when it was time for the others still in Glie to take their day of flight, they would remember too. Reki walked happily into the woods. Today was finally her day to be blessed. She had waited so long and the journey was hard, but the end of her long nightmare was finally here.
