Reki jumped a little from her seat but then winced from the pain that went down her side and arm. It really hurt to move her wing so fast. "Ho..how did you get in here?"

As per habit, the medicine seller avoided answering, opting instead to interest himself with the girl's wings from the far side of the room. Perhaps his lips curled in amusement--or perhaps the paint gave the illusion of it, as it often did. "Quite an accident...you must have had."

Reki looked confused. What was he thinking? "It wasn't an accident. Some guy pulled my feathers out." She was in too much pain to try and figure out why he wasn't answering her questions. "Can you help clean it up please?"

"Oh?" While the idea of a man ripping the girl's feathers out would have incited a greater reaction from most, the medicine seller belied no particular one himself. Nonetheless, he stood and approached the winged girl, examining the wound with the barest hint of a smile--inexplicable, considering the situation.

Still keeping focus on the wing, he reached for the cloth on the table next to the two and immersed it into the warm water in the washbasin before beginning to clean the injury. His movements were deliberate and steady, the gestures of someone who had dealt with plenty of these kinds of problems.

Reki's wing trembled at his touch and she had to bite down on her lower lip. The pain wasn't as bad as when the feathers had been pulled, but it was making her eyes water a little. Rubbing at her eyes, Reki took a deep breath to calm down. "Thank you."

By now, the wet towel had been folded and set on the table again, and the medicine seller had clean bandaging cloth and salve at the ready. From his sleeve, he pulled out a spare tenugui and handed it to the girl, adding, "Better to bite down on the cloth if it hurts that much." This time, the smile was not illusory; neither was it obvious whether he was saying the words in good nature or in some semblance of mockery. Perhaps it had been both.

It was peculiar, finding reason to do this sort of work, something the medicine seller was not nearly as interested in as his other affairs--yet so far, nothing had made itself apparent in the city as needing his brand of assistance. Until then...

After poulticing the cloth, he started to wind it around the wing.
