Now I am the Master (almost)

My defense went pretty smoothly, except for the member of my committee who was incredibly late and the fact that I still need to get signatures on some forms that he should have brought to the defense. Other than that, though, the defense went really well. In fact, I was told that it was almost good enough to be a Doctoral dissertation, which is pretty dang cool. Now I just need to finish my class and it's on to the next step. I wish I knew what the next step is... I am considering going for a PhD, but if that happens it will be at least a year away. Right now, I either want to work at a community college or as an editor, depending on where I can find some openings. I've been working as a writing tutor, and if I could find a writing center with an opening for a director or something I would love to take that. Anyway, here's how the defense went down: I talked for a few minutes about the process of writing the thesis, and then my committee asked me some questions to make sure I knew what I was talking about and to help clarify some ideas that went beyond the scope of the thesis, and offered some suggestions about how to make it better.. Then they asked me to leave so they could decide if I passed or not. After a couple of minutes, they called me back in to congratulate me. Now I just have to make some small revisions (and get signatures) and submit the whole thing to the graduate school. Easy peasy! The hardest part will be getting the signatures.

It's really weird to be done (or almost done). It's kind of bittersweet. Now I have to go back to the real world and get a job, which is never any fun. I hate that search. But, I am very proud of this accomplishment.

I'm thinking about selling copies in my CafePress shops, but I'm not 100% sure yet.  I'll post here if I do.

"When last we met, I was but the learner. Now I am the Master!"
