AAR.
overall the past two days went over ok. the mission was a clusterfuck, but that's how it always goes with a co; i'm not sure what it is, but these guys (the leadership)can never seem to get their shit straight. 3rd wasn't doing anything anyway, we were in a support by fire position, so whatever; it's just frustrating to waste our time with incompetency, that could have been good training.
haha, the jump preceding the mission was interesting. Everyone in weapons squad had 75+ lb. rucks and our weapons(either a M4 or 240B) so by the time we got to the plane we weren't too happy. The flight wasn't too bad, even if it was ungodly long (an HOUR!!), the flight crew was cool enough to play some music over the comm system, which doesn't happen often. Though their choice was pretty shitty...Lynrd Skynrd. thanks assholes, pick a band that got all fucked up in a plane crash, smartass air force. My exit was surprisingly good, it had been a while since i jumped equipment so i was a little nervous. Anyway, i lower my equipment (minus my rifle case, i usually ride that in,)and look up from making sure my ruck didn't hit anyone and see a canopy two feet away from me, NOT GOOD; at this point i'm ~150 feet off the ground. It was too late to do anything so i figure "fuck it, i won't get hurt too badly from this height". I bounce off homeboys canopy and feel my 'chute partially collapse, i dropped seventy feet instantly, at this point i had a big "aw..shit" running through my mind, i was going to hit a LOT harder than i predicted. Thankfully, i slowed down a little before i hit the ground, and walked away mostly unscathed; i can still see where my dogtags got imprinted on my ass cheek. So other than being scared witless and having a sore rump, could've been worse, but still the roughest landing i've had yet.
i guess the worst part about the whole thing was the heat, we had an index of 110. needless to say we had a bunch of heat casualties that day. hydrate or die.
