Shadow/Dusk - rabble (800 words) nerdyprogrammer September 8 2011, 02:02:50 UTC
“Dusk!” Shadow hollers, his crimson eyes trying to pick out his purple-furred friend but has no luck. 'Come on Shadow, the fair will be fun! We'll have a great time!' Shadow thinks, reciting Dusk's very words before he got into this mess, 'How can we have a great time if she darts off into this crowd on her own? Come to think of it, how can she even move that fast in this tight of a crowd?!'

Doing his best to politely squeeze through the rabble, although at this point he's almost ready to elbow people out of the way, Shadow manages to find the midway; stocked with all kinds of stalls from the typical ring toss and bottle pyramids to more technologically upgraded games like a laser shooter and skee ball.

Although this area isn't quite as squished as where he was, there are still a good amount of people around...and for a creature whose eye-level is the rough chest-height for humans, he's having a hard time seeing anything but multi-colored shirts. Frustrated with his obstructed view, Shadow leaps up into the air and lands on one of the booths, surveying the crowd for any hint of purple but can't find anything but the occasional purple shirt.

“Oy! You up there!” yells the booth's attendant, “I run a bottle pyramid game, not an observation deck! Either get down and play game or stand on someone's game!”

With a snort of annoyance, Shadow leaps away to another booth, then another, unsuccessful in finding his friend.

“Crazy man,” the attendant grunts, turning around to find Dusk waiting for a chance to play. After paying for a round, the purple hedgehog grabs up one of the baseballs, gets her eye in, and throws; perfectly knocking down the first pyramid. The next shot yields the same result, all six bottles of the pyramid sent clattering to the ground.

The third and final shot however, knocks down five of the six; leaving the last one teetering back and forth. “Come on, fall over!” Dusk hopes aloud...only for the bottle to settle upright. She huffs in well-earned frustration.

“Tell you what, you're a sweet gal,” the attendant says, “Go ahead and take one of the top prizes anyway. You practically won it anyway.”

“Really? You sure?”

“Sure I'm sure!” the attendant laughs.

“Then I want...” Dusk trails off to look at the prizes. “That one!”

Meanwhile Shadow has made a perch on the side of a roller coaster, still trying to pick Dusk out of the massive crowd below and having barely any luck. Several times he thinks he's seen her, only for enough of the crowd to part to reveal someone else, or just a stuffed toy.

The scaffolding he's standing on rattles violently as one of the trains hurtles by overheard, the whoops and yells of the riders lasting longer than the shaking. If only he bothered to look over would he see Dusk in the lead car; a look of excitement on her face and her prize tightly gripped in one arm.
