In addition, five climbers from another expedition were missing, said Mohammed Akram, vice president of the Adventure Foundation of Pakistan, a nonprofit organization.
Akram said the six climbers died when they were hit by an "ice cornice" or snow crashing off an overhang on K-2 during the mountaineers' climb down.
I tried to find a corroborating story but it looks like everyone is using rehashes of the AP story. I used to have a great real-time Everest climb website bookmarked, I seem to have lost it. During Everest season I had been reading the blogs of a climb guide who was bringing his two daughters to base camp. I lost the link and never found out how it went this year. They were still on the trek last time I looked. If I recall they were young teenagers. How stupid is that? I can see taking them on a trek, but having kids at base camp? The chances of them witnessing death and terrible accidents is pretty much 100%.
