Tri-state bird rescue (I think it's www.tristatebird.org). They are a wild bird rehabilitator/research facility and experts in cleaning up oiled birds after oil spills. They were created after a bad oil spill in the 70s & are now pretty much the leading facility that does that kind of work-I think there's one on the West Coast that's similar. Up the Chesapeake Bay, through the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal to New Jersey is a spill-prone area.
Anyhoo. They take in babies that have fallen out of nests, injured adult birds, etc. Most common injury: cat attack. (Cats aren't native species and they do damage to teh birdies.) And they need volunteers to feed & clean them. That's what I do.
The mice are for the raptors. I don't get to play with the raptors yet, I don't have the advanced training. There are also lots of fish for the water birds. They have their own little caged-in pond.

There was a whole conversation about the C&D Canal and what (or what probably) runs through it today at lunch...OIL, that's what got the most votes...I should have said something about the birdies.
And why are there trays of dead mice?
