Watched this last night and I cried. Touching, and remind me of my passed away cousin who closely in the same situation like this. She passed away last week. See the movie's release date above? That's when my cousin passed away.
Accidential event? I don't know. Only God knows.
The girl in the movie : passed at 15. My cousin : 16.
Rite, back to the review.
Some people compare this to last year's release of US Christian Movie,
Letters to God, but believe me, they're so different. Still the same theme about a girl/boy who have a cancer in such young age, while Tyler, tries so hard sending Letters to God (and he's still an 8 y/o boy), Keke is not like that. She kept a diary everyday and wrote a poem (she titled it as My Letter to God) after she knew about her illness. See the difference here? But I won't compare it more, just go with a short review now.
Surat Kecil Untuk TUHAN based from an online novel written by a blogger which published as a novel then, and now a movie. Inspired and based from a true story of Gita Sesa Wanda Cantika/Keke (portrayed by Dinda Hauw in the movie) who got a
Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer when she was still 13 years old then fought this illness for a chemotherapy. Life happily with many best friends in school didn't make her happy, her parents were live seperated and her older brothers always went outside to having fun. Despite of that, she fought her illness with a great intention for a life. She even care about other kid who got the same illness like her, that couldn't operate because of minimum budget, when she knew the medical team couldn't do anything more to cure her.
There's so many plot-hole in the movie. To get the complete storyline, we must read the novel and I haven't. Yet.
What I love about this movie is how the director try to re-tell the story with dialogue and words. The lighting, camera angle, scene and final editing, can be called as an amateur, kinda disturb me a little-but I'm trying to focus into the story. At some scene especially closer to the end, I compare it to my little cousin's final moment.
Her sister watched this with me too and it got her so many tears, made her remembered that time when she was at her final moment, but she didn't write her last word like Keke did.
This movie make me missed my cousin so much.
How are you, girl?
