Shadow of the Colossus

I've thought this since I finished the game and all, but I'm a little tired and taking a small break from schoolwork....

Shadow of the Colossus is one amazing game

pre-posting edit: this has a shit ton of spoilers, rofl.

Its almost like a work of expressionistic art, visually. Its textures and build of things is very simple but combining it all together makes for an atmosphere you can get sucked into quite easily

Story-wise and gameplay-wise, its simple but oddly complex(well, the story is complkex oncwe you sit and think about it).
Story goes that you're some guy, wanting to revive a girl and to do so you have to defeat 17(i think that's right, I'm so out of it right now >>; ) colossi.
Gameplay ~> You find and kill these colossi
Back to story, in the end you come to find out you're unleashed some horribly great power(...monster maybe) that was supposed to be locked away forever. All through the game, you believe that you're doing good by defeating these monsters and eventually you're gonna get something out of it in the end.
It makes you feel like you've just played the bad guy.
Colossi don't even do anything unless you're around. Some won't even attack you unless provoked. And really, one of them was just protecting an area from intruders... which you are. So basically you're disturbing all of these creatures just to kill them.
Doesn't help that in the end that dormin guy goes "LOL HAY I CAN HAS FREEDOMZ NAO" and some priesty dude and soilders have to shoot you down in an attempt to stop dormin fromn owning everything.
So, thus far, you were tricked by this big bad guy because he said he'd bring the girl (who you, as the player, have no idea why she's important to our little hero) back to life. In the end you get screwed over because mr. big bad guy thefts your body to try and own things
fuuun times, but it doesn't end there
Well, before I go on any longer let me mention: you've been shot down by some dudes and look very close to death and that girl doesn't look very alive at all >_>
Now, continuing on: you're struggling to see this girl to see if she's alive, but then you're sucked into this pool of water. plop~ never to see anything again
Well boy do i feel like i did a lot of crap for nothing. :/
But then~ When you're mad gone for good, dead girl arises from the dead! Hurraaaa- wait. I CAN'T RELISH IN THIS JOY DX I JUST DIED LSDFJSFLKDJ
So she's like "ejfjsl where am i?" My horse limps up to her(don't ask, there's another epic tale about the horse and why he limps) and they go to the pool of water where you feel in. They look and, oh mai~ issa baby!
D:...
I was reborn and I can't even recognize that all my hardwork did actually pay off. May not be for the greates reasons but it paid off.

*end spoilers if anyone cares*

uhhh... i was gonna go into something else but I seem to have tracked my train of thought when I first finished the game.... oops. WELL LETS TRY THIS
So yeah, this game made me rethink your generic video game main character. It showed me that just because you're playing a character int he game doesn't always mean their cause is going to seem noble throughout the whole entire game. For Wander (oh hey, thats his name), it was still noble... just misguided maybe? If I were him and I knew that ressurecting this girl would bring out some evil monster and start a lineage of horned children (another part I left out from my original tracking >>; the baby you're reborn into has horns), I think I would've buried her. It kinda threw a new perspective on video game characters for me. Throughout my years of gaming, I never had a main character have motives or made actions that I eventually came to disagree with.... except int he grand theft auto series but thats to be expeccted.
Also, who was Mono(dead girl's name) to Wander? There was no information given as to who she was at allk in the game. The way Wander takes on the colossi to ressurect her makes you think she was his sister, a loving spouse or something. But who knows? Does Mono even know Wander? He could just have been a boy who had a crush on Mono and wanted to look heroic to her when she woke up.
So for all we know, Wander's great adventure could have been an effort to make a girl like him. Niiice.

I ran outta juice. This was all incited while drawing a hare to Shadow of Colossus music. Half-awake ramblings are fun

games, thoughts
