"Do you really believe such superstitious nonsense?"
"'tis no nonsense, luv! Generations of Irish can't be mistaken, aye? Bad spirits have to be shooed away in this special night of the year and only Ol' Jack can do it properly!"
Green eyes sceptically examined the hollow pumpkin the pirate worked on with a carving knife.
"It has little to no resemblance with you."
"Of course not! It's Ol' Jack O'Lantern, not me, who shoos away the spirits. See?"
A candle was placed inside the figure and inflamed, producing weird shadows dancing everywhere across the cabin -- and causing a gentle lopsided smile, accompanied by visibly amused green eyes.
"You are still a child, Jack. But please, do me a favour and keep this silly boy within your character! It's one of your qualities I love most."
He kissed his lover's temple, and then requested: "Let's eat now. I very much prefer the pumpkin soup hot; and it would be a damn waste if you would neglect Ol' Jack's entrails after you put so much passion in cutting them out."
