so today i finally sucked it up and bought a new umbrella. not that there's anything wrong with the awesome bitsy umbrella my mom gave me, it works well in the rain. it just doesn't block out any sunlight, and people here (since they carry umbrellas all the time anyway, since it's most likely going to rain later that day) use them to block out the sun (in the US we may like tans, but here, they definitely don't) this is not just women, men carry them too, and they are ubiquitous. so i bought an umbrella that blocks out UV rays, and provides excellent shade. i figure it's so damn hot out there anyway, i might as well spare myself whatever i can. it's silver with pink butterflies. i know, i know, horrifically girly, but it works and the silver is fun and reflecty. i shall blind people! HAHA.

i've also realized what's weird about the buildings here. they're tiled. like, 90% of them have at least the facade tiled. o_O weird. wonder why.
