so this has been a good weekend
I spent time talking to a hot dutch guy! at dinner! HAHA. Oh yeah. He spoke excellent english, but unfortunately all the people I meet only started Chinese, so it's not like I can practice on them. I really have to start learning the names of dishes so I can order properly in Chinese. What I'd really love is to sit down and copy out some of the names. Maybe tomorrow I'll steal a menu and do that, at least of the dishes I've liked so far so I can say them in Chinese. But tonight I had fried rice (chao fan, I think) which was really quite good :-). And eaten with a spoon apparently. Not even the Chinese eat their fried rice with chopsticks.
Went to see the Chiang Kai Shek memorial hall yesterday. It was very very cool. I loved the huge gate, which dominated the front part of the courtyard... though I'm not sure you can call it dominating given that the buildings that flanked it were even bigger, and more colorful, and the memorial itself was equally huge, round, and white. Did some gift shopping... bought myself a fan (oh thank god) and some CDs at the music hall, which I'm very happy with, because they're very cool.
